PURPOSE OF POSITION: This position will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the delivery operations team. This position will ensure that the delivery team meets company standards for customer service, safety, efficiency, and accuracy. This role will require strong leadership and organizational skills, as well as a customer-centric approach to problem-solving.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions:
- Plan and execute daily delivery routes, considering factors such as route volumes, vehicle size, traffic patterns, and delivery schedules.
- Maintain accurate delivery records, including delivery sequencing and customer information, using eoStar.
- Supervise and direct teams of Delivery Drivers, Delivery Helpers/Merchandisers to ensure all deliveries are completed and merchandised in a timely and efficient manner.
- Train and mentor personnel to improve performance and ensure consistent quality of service.
- Ensure all delivery personnel comply with company policies and procedures, including safety regulations and customer service standards, and that they are executing against their weekly/monthly goals.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Manage the Delivery Driver and Delivery Helper teams, ensuring they are properly trained, motivated, and equipped to carry out their duties.
- Participate in hiring decisions, hold team members accountable for job performance or behavior that does not meet company standards, and commend high performers.
- Interview, hire, train, and develop staff; responsible for training all current and new delivery personnel.
- Plan, assign tasks, and direct the work of subordinate personnel; examine work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to company policies and procedures.
- Provide and post work schedules, vacation schedules, and other pertinent documents.
- Appraise performance, reward employees appropriately, address complaints, and resolve personnel problems; work to curate a motivated, team-centric group.
- Monitor and submit bi-weekly payroll and monthly PFP documentation.
- Take necessary corrective action in a timely manner and in accordance with company policy.
- Conduct and facilitate department meetings, including regular safety training sessions.
- Schedule drivers for workdays, coordinate work weeks, and manage vacation schedules.
- Monitor delivery performance through market audits, driver safety scores, and ensuring employees are executing their monthly PFP.
- Coordinate and manage the overtime of the delivery team through coordination of all resources.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations, providing feedback and coaching as necessary.
- Execute against scorecard objectives each trimester.
Delivery and Route Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, including driver qualifications, vehicle maintenance, and adherence to all federal, state, and local laws.
- Ensure all delivery equipment, including tractors, trailers, vehicles, dollies, hand jacks, and pallet jacks, are properly treated and maintained by delivery personnel.
- Seek out process improvements, such as route optimization, load balancing, and customer service enhancements, to improve delivery performance and customer satisfaction.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with customers and resolve any delivery-related issues promptly and professionally.
- Collaborate with Sales and Warehouse Operations to ensure accurate loading of trucks, appropriate levels of service for customers, and improved delivery processes.
- Assist drivers with final loading and cover delivery routes when necessary.
- Survey the marketplace regularly to ensure Summits' brands are represented to company standards and to monitor competitors' activities.
- Monitor service levels and delivery frequency, making recommendations for cost-effective changes to the Director of Delivery Operations.
- Monitor DOT requirements of all drivers along with HR.
- Monitor backstock for neatness and cleanliness.
- Develop a pre-plan weekly, follow up with driver concerns, check in on drivers while enroute, and maintain positive relationships with the customer base.
- Analyze all delivery routes to ensure effectiveness and efficiency.
- Monitor all product discrepancy reports and cash deposits.
- Ensure that all safety and vehicle inspections follow DOT and company procedures.
- Ensure staff complete pre- and post-trip inspections to company standards.
- Ensure proper communication of the delivery team with sales personnel regarding delivery issues that affect customer service levels.
- Actively participate in department meetings and safety training sessions.
- Complete other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager and Director of Delivery Operations.

Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS and KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES (KSA)
Any combination equivalent to the following education and experience that would provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities would qualify. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills and abilities would be:
- High School diploma or equivalent; some college coursework preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in business, logistics, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum three (3) years experience in delivery management, logistics, distribution, or transportation, preferably in the beverage or food industry.
- Three (3) or more years in a supervisory or management capacity.
- Most hold a valid Commercial Driver License and medical card. Preferably a Class A but will accept Class B. Willingness to obtain a Class A is preferred.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and direct a team of drivers and helpers.
- Must possess the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Familiarity with delivery routing and inventory management software systems.
- Familiarity with delivery equipment and tools, including hand trucks, forklifts, and pallet jacks.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent customer service skills, with a focus on building positive relationships with customers and resolving issues effectively.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations governing transportation and delivery and alcoholic beverages.
- Basic knowledge of draft systems and their operations is preferred.
- Strong organizational, computer, and time-management skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, vendors, other governmental agencies, and the public as appropriate.
- Understand and effectively communicate Summit Beverage's organizational mission and goals.
- Valid Montana driver's license and the ability to be insured under a company insurance policy.
- Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends and provide coverage as needed.
Physical and Other Requirements: This position requires a minimum of four 10-hour days, primarily spent out in the market. The shifts, end times, and total hours worked may vary depending on the season and amount of deliveries, sometimes exceeding 10 hours. Also may involve coverage on off-delivery days or if employees are absent from work.

Working Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to extreme cold, extreme heat wet and/or humid conditions while working and traveling between customer accounts. Employees may be exposed to continual movement or vibration while operating the company vehicle. The employee often works near moving mechanical equipment (i.e. forklift/lift gates). The noise level in the work environment is usually mild/moderate.
