Job Summary:
The Automation Technical Lead is responsible for leading the design, implementation, and integration of automation systems supporting Utilities and Building Management Systems (BMS). This role ensures that automation solutions meet operational, regulatory, and performance requirements while supporting commissioning, validation, and long-term system reliability within a regulated environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as technical lead for automation systems supporting Utilities and BMS, including HVAC, central plant, and critical utilities monitoring.
  • Define and own automation technical requirements including URS/FRS, control narratives, I/O lists, points lists, and network architecture.
  • Ensure alignment of automation systems with cybersecurity and IT/OT integration requirements.
  • Develop and review design deliverables such as P&IDs, control diagrams, sequences of operation, panel designs, and wiring schematics.
  • Support vendor and system integrator selection, including technical evaluations, bid reviews, and scope definition.
  • Manage technical interfaces and respond to RFIs during project execution.
  • Lead commissioning readiness activities, including review of test protocols and support of FAT, SAT, and IOQ execution.
  • Oversee functional testing, manage punch lists, and ensure completeness of turnover documentation packages.
  • Coordinate system cutovers, downtime planning, and operational readiness with Facilities and Operations teams.
  • Provide troubleshooting support and perform root cause analysis for system issues.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable standards, including cGMP (where applicable), change control, and documentation practices.
  • Establish and maintain standards for alarms, trending, system graphics, naming conventions, and CMMS/EMS integration.
  • Mentor engineers and technicians, promoting best practices and technical development.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or related field).
  • Extensive experience in industrial automation and Building Management Systems (BMS).
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC controls, utilities systems, and facility automation.
  • Experience with system design, integration, and commissioning (FAT/SAT/IOQ).
  • Familiarity with cGMP environments and validation processes is preferred.
  • Knowledge of IT/OT integration and industrial cybersecurity principles.
  • Experience managing vendors and system integrators.
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
