Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Orientation and Mobility or Special Education, Certification as a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS), and 1+ years Orientation and Mobility Specialist experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

A contract position is available for Orientation and Mobility Specialists (OMS) to serve school-age students in the Denver area, specifically within the Aurora Public Schools district. This role supports students in developing skills for independent travel and navigation, crucial for those with visual impairments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess and develop individualized orientation and mobility plans for students
  • Provide direct instruction in travel safety, spatial awareness, and adaptive techniques
  • Collaborate with educators, families, and other specialists to integrate mobility goals
  • Maintain accurate records and progress reports in compliance with district requirements
  • Attend training and professional development as needed

Qualifications:

  • Active CDE certification with a Special Service License and School Orientation & Mobility Specialist endorsement
  • Completion of background check and fingerprinting per district policy
  • Experience working with school-age children, preferably with visual impairments
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Flexibility to accommodate varying caseload sizes and schedules

Position Details:

  • Location: Aurora, CO (Denver area)
  • Contract-based for the 2026-2027 school year (August through May)
  • Multiple openings anticipated (3-4 positions), full-time or part-time hours to be determined
  • Interviews are currently underway
  • Assignments and caseloads will vary based on district needs and direct-hire preferences
