O V E R V I E W
The Hobby Center’s Finance and Accounting Specialist serves as a crucial member of the Finance and Administration team, delivering consistently high-quality accounting work on important tasks that keep vital information flowing throughout the organization.
M A J O R F U N C T I O N S
- Maintain and keep up-to-date, audit-ready records for various financial accounts, including – but not limited to – event sales & tickets, parking, sales tax, concessions, catering, merchandise, customer event deposits, corporate cards, chargebacks, and more.
- Process and reconcile financial transactions such as payables, receivables, cash/check deposits, journal entries, daily bank feeds, and more.
- Perform routine review of general ledger & agings for monthly close.
- Provide support for budget preparation and annual audit.
- Build reports and analyses in accounting software; create presentations for department; provide support for monthly financial reporting.
- Coordinate corporate card program and employee reimbursements.
- Identify and resolve discrepancies in all areas described above.

Skills and Qualifications
- Experience in event-based accounting/finance, such as performing arts, is strongly preferred
- Excellent Microsoft Office skills are preferred
- Experience with Sage Intacct accounting software and Ramp corporate card/bill pay software is a plus
- At least 3 to 5 years of experience and a Bachelor's degree

C O M P E N S A T I O N
The Hobby Center offers a competitive compensation and benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 403b savings plan with matching employer contributions, and paid time off. The anticipated hiring range for this position is $65,000-$75,000 annually.

The Hobby Center for the Performing Arts deepens understanding of our shared humanity. We serve as a connector, convenor, and incubator for all Houston audiences, artmakers and arts organizations. Opened in 2002, the Hobby Center campus houses two theaters including the 2,650-seat Sarofim Hall and the 500-seat Zilkha Hall. Since 2012, the Hobby Center has been a national leader in accessibility, presenting Sensory Inclusive performances and providing exemplary customer service via its Access Team at all public events. Over the past year and a half, the Hobby Center developed and is implementing a strategic plan that drastically shifts its role in the Houston arts community. The Programming and Education Department was a result of this plan's first steps. This is an exciting time to be involved in the Hobby Center as it implements its new identity with a focus towards expanding the communities it serves and engages.
