The Removable Waxer is responsible for fabricating base plates, rims, and contouring wax for removable prosthetics including full and partial dentures. This role involves interpreting prescriptions, sculpting accurate wax patterns, and preparing cases for processing within the removable department.


Essential Functions

  • Read and interpret prescriptions included with each case, construct prostheses in alignment with doctors’ written orders and specifications.
  • Analyze models and perform bite block fabrication using anatomical guidelines.
  • Build wax rims for full and partial dentures with precision to ensure proper occlusion, aesthetics, and fit.
  • Maintain high standards of craftsmanship and accuracy in all work produced.
  • Follow daily case schedule and production goals to ensure timely progression of cases.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with colleagues, managers, and other departments regarding case requirements or concerns.
  • Utilize and conserve materials and supplies efficiently throughout the fabrication process.
  • Operate a wide range of laboratory tools and equipment, including electric drills, lathes, presses, high-heat furnaces, sandblasters, paint brushes, grinders, carvers, wax pots, and bunsen burners.
  • Adhere to all established quality control protocols and standard operating procedures.
  • Identify and report problematic cases or those requiring additional preparation or clarification.
  • Clean and maintain work area, tools, and equipment daily to ensure safety and efficiency.
  • Apply technical knowledge and sound judgment to achieve accurate, high-quality results and support departmental goals.
  • Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned by management to meet evolving business needs.

Requirements:

Education & Experience

Required

  • Demonstrated hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills.
  • Experience in roles requiring manual dexterity and precision handling of small tools and materials.

Preferred

  • Previous experience in a laboratory environment or dental laboratory environment, particularly in removable prosthetics.
  • Background in the dental field.

  • Ability to anticipate, identify and resolve problems in a timely and positive manner
  • Basic technology skills, including MS Office Suite

Physical Requirements

  • Sitting - Sitting Continuous for 8+ hours
  • Standing - Standing. Particularly for sustained periods of time
  • Bending - Bending or stooping continuously for 8+ hours
  • Lift/Push/Carry - Must be able to lift, push, and carry up to 15lbs
  • Vision - The worker is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned (i.e., custodial, food services, general laborer, etc.) or to make general observations of facilities or structures

Additional Physical Requirements

  • Crouching. Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine, 8+ hours
  • Reaching. Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers, pinch, grasp.
  • Able to use hand tools with repetitive vibration and manual dexterity.

Work Conditions

  • Travel: N/A
  • Must be able to wear personnel protective equipment for tasks requiring them.
  • Dust and airborne particles of any kind, such as textile dust, wood, silica.
  • Constant or intermittent noise.
  • The worker is subject to vibration, exposure to oscillating movements of the extremities or whole body.
