Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
An opportunity is available for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to provide critical communication support in educational settings. The ideal candidate will facilitate clear and effective communication between hearing-impaired students and their peers, teachers, and staff, ensuring equal access to curriculum and school activities.
Location: Billings, MT
Work Environment: School settings with required travel to various school locations
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa, maintaining the integrity and intent of the original communication
- Assist students during classroom instruction, meetings, and extracurricular activities
- Collaborate with educators and support staff to adapt communication methods to individual student needs
- Travel between schools within the district as required to support multiple students
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethical standards
Qualifications and Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with demonstrated fluency
- Prior experience working as a sign language interpreter in educational or similar environments preferred
- Knowledge of educational terminology and curriculum-specific vocabulary
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with students, families, and school personnel
- Willingness and ability to travel between school sites
