Location: Kalamazoo, MI
Shift: Monday – Friday | 7:00AM-3:30 PM | Overtime as Needed
Starting Pay: $18/hour

We are currently hiring a Material Handler for our 1st shift team. This individual will be responsible for operating powered industrial trucks to unload, load, weigh, and process scrap metal. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working outside, is willing to learn and is very organized.

What You’ll Do
- Identify and sort various metals accurately.
- Obtain and maintain a valid forklift license (training provided)
- Manually or mechanically load and unload materials from flatbeds, van trailers, or other transport vehicles.
- Follow all Schupan safety procedures, regulations, and policies,
- Transport and deliver a variety of materials, ensuring compliance with all safety protocols.
- Verify inventory of incoming and outgoing shipments for accuracy.
- Secure and chock trailers according to company policy prior to loading or unloading.
- Ensure all inbound materials meet Schupan's purchase specifications.
- Lift and move items weighing up to 50 lbs without assistance.
- Report all incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions to management immediately.
- Perform daily equipment inspections; promptly report any needed repairs to Supervisor or Maintenance.

What We’re Looking ForRequired Qualifications
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
- 3–6 months of related industrial experience
- Forklift experience or willingness to become certified
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
- Ability to maintain regular and reliable attendance
Skills and Abilities
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask effectively.
- Ability to communicate in both verbal and written forms.
- Computer literacy (basic data entry and inventory tracking).
- Ability to work extended hours and weekends as needed.
- Ability to work in varying temperature conditions.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
- Majority of shifts are spent standing or walking.
- Regularly requires bending, sitting, reaching, and stooping.
- Frequently lifts and moves materials and tools weighing up to 50lbs to load/unload.
- Routinely performs repetative movements such as twising and lifting.
- Be able to walk up and down stairs.
- Must be able to enter and exit industrial equipment.
