Summary
A public elementary school in southern Illinois is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Special Education Life Skills Teacher to join its student-focused instructional team. The district is committed to inclusive education, collaboration, and individualized support for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This role focuses on fostering functional academic, daily living, and social-emotional skills to promote student growth and independence.What You’ll Do
Provide individualized and small-group instruction aligned with students’ IEP goals.
Support the development of functional academic, daily living, and communication skills.
Adapt curriculum and teaching strategies to meet diverse learning needs.
Foster student independence, self-regulation, and social-emotional growth.
Collaborate with paraprofessionals, specialists, and general education staff to ensure inclusive practices.
Maintain a structured, positive classroom environment that supports behavior and engagement.
Communicate effectively with families and colleagues to support consistent student progress.What You’ll Need
Current and proper Illinois teaching certification.
Experience working with students with moderate to severe disabilities.
Strong classroom management and behavior support skills.
Familiarity with functional life skills curriculum and instructional methods.
Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
Experience or willingness to use alternative communication systems (e.g., PECS, AAC devices).
Demonstrated commitment to inclusive education and collaborative teaching.
