Outside Sales Engineer – Industrial Heat Transfer Equipment

Location: Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina

About the Role

Thermal Products Inc., a leading manufacturer’s representative and distributor of industrial heat transfer and process equipment, is seeking an experienced Outside Sales Engineer to manage and grow our territories in Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.


This position is ideal for a technical sales professional with proven outside sales experience and a background in heat transfer, process, or industrial equipment. You’ll be representing a trusted product line to key markets including General Industrial, Chemical, Power Generation, and Process Industries.

The preferred candidate will reside in the greater Charlotte area, though applicants located elsewhere within North or South Carolina will also be considered.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and expand sales within the assigned territory through consistent customer visits, relationship building, and opportunity development.
  • Maintain and grow existing accounts while prospecting for new customers and applications.
  • Conduct professional, in-person sales calls and technical presentations to discuss system needs and solutions.
  • Prepare detailed proposals, follow up promptly, and close orders efficiently.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and principal manufacturers on joint sales efforts, training, and territory strategy.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of all company products, including heat exchangers, electric heaters, pumps, and related process equipment.
  • Provide accurate weekly activity reports, forecasts, and account updates.
  • Monitor market trends and competitor activity to identify areas of opportunity.


Qualifications & Skills

  • Outside industrial sales experience is required — preferably in industrial or technical equipment sales.
  • Experience with heat transfer equipment (such as heat exchangers or electric heaters) or a Mechanical/Electrical Engineering degree strongly preferred.
  • Strong technical aptitude with the ability to engage confidently with engineers, maintenance, and plant personnel.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven time management, organization, and follow-up abilities.
  • Self-motivated, assertive, and able to work independently while collaborating effectively with internal teams.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access) and CRM software (such as ACT).
  • Must be willing and able to travel extensively within the territory (20,000–30,000 miles per year).
