Summary
Aluma Marine & Fabrication seeks a hands-on, professional Accountant who can step in without training, assess current workflows, and tell us what needs to be done—then do it. You will own daily accounting, month-end close, job costing, inventory accounting, and compliance in a fast-moving shipyard environment. Bachelor’s in Accounting and a current accounting certification are required.
Core Responsibilities
Accounting Operations — Manage Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR); process cash receipts and disbursements; reconcile bank and credit card accounts; maintain the general ledger; handle invoicing, collections, and weekly payment runs; maintain accurate vendor and customer accounts/files.
Month-End Close & Reporting — Lead monthly close process; record accruals, deferrals, and reclassifications; reconcile balance-sheet accounts; prepare financial statements (Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow); produce dashboards highlighting key metrics (margins, work-in-progress [WIP], AR/AP aging, inventory turns); coordinate with external CPA.
Job Costing, WIP & Revenue — Track job-level costs (materials, labor, subcontractors, overhead); prepare WIP and percent-complete schedules; analyze variances; support milestone/progress billing; ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) revenue recognition.
Payroll & Compliance — Oversee weekly payroll in coordination with HR/supervisors; manage payroll and sales/use tax calendars and filings; maintain internal controls and compliance documentation.
Budgeting, Planning & Process Improvement — Maintain company budgets and forecasts, including a rolling 13-week cash flow; develop and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs); implement process controls, checklists, and reporting templates; recommend system and reporting improvements.
Qualifications Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- Professional certification (at least one required): Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), Intuit QuickBooks ProAdvisor (Advanced preferred), National Association of Certified Public Bookkeepers—Certified Public Bookkeeper (NACPB CPB), or American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers—Certified Bookkeeper (AIPB CB).
- 5+ years progressive accounting experience in manufacturing, construction, or marine/shipyard industries.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, cost accounting, job costing, and WIP/percent-complete revenue recognition.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks (Desktop and Online) and Microsoft Excel (lookups, pivot tables, imports); skilled in job/class tracking.
- Demonstrated ownership, prioritization, and accuracy in a fast-paced, hands-on environment; high integrity with sensitive financial data.
Preferred
- Inventory accounting, cycle counts, and variance analysis experience.
- Payroll platforms (ADP, Paychex) and timekeeping integrations.
- Multi-jurisdiction sales/use tax exposure.
