POSITION SUMMARY:
The Youth Resiliency & Wellness Specialist plays a vital role in advancing the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Tampa Bay’s commitment to trauma-informed, emotionally safe, and wellness-centered youth programming. In this position, the Specialist provides consistent guidance, coaching, and hands-on support to Club staff and members, helping to strengthen resiliency skills, emotional regulation, and psychological safety throughout the Club environment.
This role is responsible for delivering structured coping‑skills activities, supporting early intervention for youth displaying signs of stress or dysregulation, and ensuring that wellness routines are carried out with fidelity across all program spaces. The Specialist also contributes to staff development, program quality, and alignment with evidence‑informed wellness curricula and tools.
Additionally, the Specialist promotes the integration of developmentally appropriate physical activity and cooperative recreational play as part of the Club’s holistic wellness approach—recognizing that movement, teamwork, and positive peer interaction naturally reinforce emotional regulation, social connectedness, and overall well‑being.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide training and coaching to Club staff to implement daily trauma-informed, wellness-focused routines that promote a positive and emotionally safe Club environment.
- Structure and consistency of daily activities
- Staff-led coping skills and emotional regulation practices
- Use of trauma-sensitive guidance and discipline techniques
- Introduce and model coping-skills routines, resilience-building practices, and SEL strategies through small-group activities and youth check-ins during on-site visits.
- Deliver early intervention and supportive check-ins with youth experiencing emotional or behavioral stress, helping prevent escalation and strengthening youth coping abilities.
- Help identify environmental triggers within Club spaces and support staff in reducing escalation risks through proactive, relationship-based approaches.
- Achieve and maintain relevant training credentials to support trauma-informed practices in out-of-school time environments.
- Build collaborative relationships with internal leadership and external partners to support mental wellness, trauma-informed care, and access to resiliency-building resources for youth and families.
- Assist in planning or coordinating activities that address emerging youth mental or behavioral health needs.
- Ensure that Social Emotional Learning (SEL), Emotional Vaccines curriculum components, and wellness routines are implemented consistently and effectively across program spaces.
- Help staff incorporate light physical activity or cooperative team‑based games into daily routines when appropriate, as these activities can gently support stress reduction, confidence‑building, and positive peer interactions
- Reinforce how structured group activities — including recreational sports or teamwork‑oriented games — can promote communication, cooperation, and social skills that strengthen youth resilience and emotional wellness
- Collaborate with program staff to ensure that recreational and movement‑based activities remain emotionally safe, inclusive, and aligned with trauma‑informed practices, allowing youth to benefit from the natural wellness advantages tied to active play and team belonging.
- Conduct ongoing check-ins with Club staff to reinforce fidelity to structured wellness tools, ensuring activities are delivered as designed.
- Evaluate effectiveness of routines, strategies, and youth-response outcomes; recommend adjustments to improve overall impact and alignment with program goals.
- Collaborate closely with Club leadership to support high-quality daily programming that reflects trauma-sensitive, positive youth development practices.
- Support staff through demonstrations, observation feedback, and modeling of relationship-based, non-punitive crisis prevention techniques.
- Participate in the planning or implementation of special events, initiatives, or wellness-focused activities as needed.
- Support caregiver engagement efforts, including participation in Parent Pods or sharing wellness strategies and resources that can be used at home.
- Provide consultation to parents or caregivers when appropriate regarding youth wellness strategies or Club-related concerns.
- Support special programs, events, or additional duties aligned with organizational priorities.
