The Chemist plays a vital role in ensuring the accurate and timely release of raw materials and finished products. This position requires independent performance of testing, preparation, analysis, and calculations, all executed with high accuracy and minimal supervisory correction. The Chemist must adhere strictly to approved test methods and SOPs, meeting data integrity and audit expectations, while collaborating effectively with the Pharm QC team.

Responsibilities

  • Perform raw material and finished product testing accurately to ensure timely product release.
  • Prepare samples, execute analysis, and perform calculations according to approved methods with high accuracy.
  • Follow approved test methods and SOPs, ensuring laboratory documentation is error-free and meets data integrity expectations.
  • Prioritize workload effectively to meet daily production schedules and testing deadlines.
  • Segregate, label, and dispose of hazardous waste correctly, maintaining a clean and organized work area.
  • Participate in weekly inventory activities, ensuring reagents and consumables are adequately stocked and properly labeled.
  • Monitor and complete secondary responsibilities on schedule, demonstrating accountability and proactive communication.
  • Contribute to laboratory investigations through root cause analysis, documentation, and data evaluation.
  • Support QA Operations during laboratory investigations with accurate data and clear technical explanations.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline laboratory practices while maintaining compliance and data integrity.
  • Review applicable SOPs and controlled documents regularly to ensure compliance with regulatory expectations.
  • Operate in full compliance with GMP and GLP requirements, demonstrating strong attention to detail and procedural discipline.
  • Maintain a safety-first mindset by following all safety procedures and wearing appropriate PPE.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, microbiology, biochemistry, or a related scientific field.
  • At least 3 years of laboratory experience, preferably in a pharmaceutical chemistry laboratory.
  • Proficiency in understanding, planning, and executing laboratory SOPs related to instrument use and sample analysis.
  • Knowledge of FDA regulations, including GMP and GLP.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with instruments such as HPLC, GC, Headspace GC, pH meters, UV-Vis, AA, ICP-MS, and Particle Size Distribution (Malvern 3000) is advantageous.

Work Environment

The Chemist will work in a dynamic and growing CDMO focused on animal pharmaceuticals. Positions are available in both the Finished Products group and the Raw Materials group, with shifts from Monday to Friday, 8 am - 5 pm, and 1 pm - 9 pm for Finished Products. The Raw Materials positions operate from Monday to Friday, 8 am - 5 pm. The environment is structured around safety, compliance, and the effective handling of laboratory instruments and materials.

This is a Contract position based out of Lawrence, KS.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $38.00/hr.
