General Job Summary:

The Chatham Group: Advanced Materials and Technologies Recruiting Firm is seeking a highly qualified Plant Operations Manager for a client in the specialty chemicals and raw materials manufacturing industry located in the Greater Macon, Georgia area. The Operations Manager will be responsible for managing the production engineering and warehouse teams. Your overarching responsibility will be to create and execute the production schedules and production budgets in order to meet customer product demand. This requires adherence to quality and safety standards while fostering a culture of continuous plant process improvement. This position reports to the Head of Plant Operations.


Responsibilities:

  • Manage the Plant Manufacturing/Plant Production Engineering Teams to ensure the consistent production of high quality specialty chemical/polymer products
  • Manage the Warehouse Teams to ensure all inbound and outbound raw materials and products are tracked, shipped, and received properly
  • Develop a general plant culture of safety, efficiency, quality assurance/control, and good housekeeping
  • Collaborate with the Supply Chain and Maintenance Managers in order to fulfill customer orders in a timely fashion
  • Collaborate with Customer Technical Service and Quality Managers in order to address quality issues and maintain/exceed customer satisfaction
  • Create production and labor schedules which are optimized to meet customer needs and flexible to deal with unforeseen conditions
  • Monitor and strive for improvement for various plant KPIs
  • Coach, develop, and make new hires for your team of direct reports including Production Engineers, Production Shift Supervisors, Operators, Warehouse Managers, and Warehouse Personnel


Candidate Qualifications:

  • BS Degree in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Engineering, Materials Engineering, or other highly relevant field
  • 5 years of experience in people leadership whether you have been an Engineering Supervisor, Production Supervisor, Production Manager, Engineering Manager, etc
  • 10+ years of total experience in the specialty chemicals and/or performance polymers industry
  • Demonstrable leadership, communication, and organizational abilities
  • Demonstrable expertise in chemical engineering process techniques, mechanical equipment operation and maintenance, and general background polymer chemistry
  • Understanding of Process Safety Management in a PSM chemical facility
  • Various experience with Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or other continuous process improvement ideologies is advantageous for this role
