Job Title: Health Information Technician
Location: Marysville, OH
Work Environment: Correctional Facility
Schedule: Monday–Friday, between 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM (flexible 8-hour shift within these hours)
Hours: 40 hours per week
Pay Rate: $17/hour
Weekends/Holidays: Not required
Position Overview
The Health Information Technician is responsible for compiling, maintaining, and managing health information records within a correctional healthcare setting. This position ensures medical record accuracy, completeness, confidentiality, and regulatory compliance.
This role is located inside a correctional facility and requires strict adherence to security procedures. The position also involves extensive walking throughout the facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Compile health information by reviewing, cataloging, and checking medical reports for completeness and required signatures
- Organize and prepare medical reports for placement in health information files
- Prepare charts for new admissions and complete required health information forms
- Prepare requests for specific medical reports or certificates
- Compile and type statistical reports, including:

- Daily and monthly census reports
- Medicaid days
- Admissions and discharges
- Length of stay data
- File reports into health information records
- Record information in logs and filing systems
- Retrieve health information records as requested
- Release information from medical records after determining appropriateness of request
- Coordinate with other departments regarding medical records procedures
- Ensure compliance with confidentiality standards and regulatory requirements
Work Environment & Security Requirements
- Position is located within a correctional facility
- Extensive walking required
- No cell phones permitted until proper paperwork has been submitted and approved
- Must clear a metal detector daily
- No cans, tobacco, vapes, or prohibited items allowed
- Food and drinks must be in clear, see-through containers
- No more than one gallon of water permitted inside the facility
- TB test and HireRight drug screen required if selected (must be initiated within 48 hours of accepting position)
Minimum Qualifications
- Three (3) courses or nine (9) months of experience in records management
- One (1) course or three (3) months of experience in medical terminology
- One (1) course or three (3) months of typing experience
- OR equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of health information technology
- Knowledge of JCAH and Medicare/Medicaid regulations governing medical record keeping
- Knowledge of patient confidentiality requirements
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Skill in use of word processing software and calculator
- Ability to:

- Proofread medical reports and identify errors
- Recognize missing medical record documentation
- Write routine business correspondence
- Gather, collate, and classify data
- Work within established procedures and guidelines
- Solve problems involving limited variables in familiar contexts
