Job Title: Industrial Maintenance Technician
Job Description
Maintains, repairs, and installs a wide range of heavy industrial equipment, including hydraulic systems, gearboxes, conveyor systems, vibrating feeders, hammer mills, cranes, and mechanical drives. This role works hands-on with advanced tools and machinery to troubleshoot complex mechanical issues, perform precision repairs, and support reliable plant operations in a demanding heavy industrial environment.
Responsibilities
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair hydraulic systems, gearboxes, conveyor equipment, vibrating feeders, hammer mills, cranes, mechanical drives, and other industrial machinery.
- Inspect, diagnose, dismantle, repair, assemble, and test industrial equipment, machinery, structures, and facilities to ensure safe and reliable operation.
- Install, inspect, maintain, and repair piping systems and associated fixtures and equipment.
- Perform cutting, welding, brazing, and soldering work on sheet and plate metal, including layout, fit-up, and finishing tasks.
- Use hand tools, measuring devices, and power tools such as drill presses, saws, grinders, brakes, benders, shears, iron workers, and pipe cutting and threading equipment to complete mechanical work.
- Safely operate welding, burning, and metal joining equipment, as well as hoists, cranes, mobile equipment, and related lifting devices.
- Erect and disassemble scaffolding in conjunction with repair and maintenance work, following all safety procedures.
- Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, charts, manuals, instruction books, diagrams, and other technical documents to plan and perform work accurately.
- Complete required reports, documentation, and other necessary paperwork in a clear and timely manner.
- Work collaboratively with other maintenance team members and partner with electricians to troubleshoot and resolve complex equipment issues.
- Support continuous plant operations by being available for rotating shifts and mandatory overtime when required by production needs.
Essential Skills
- 3–5+ years of experience working in a heavy industrial environment such as steel, aluminum, nuclear, foundry, paper mill, or similar settings.
- Hands-on experience with hydraulics, including troubleshooting and repair of hydraulic systems.
- Proficiency working with conveyor systems and related components.
- Experience with gear boxes, including inspection, maintenance, and repair.
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical systems and diagnose equipment failures in a heavy industrial environment.
- Experience working with cranes and mobile equipment in an industrial setting.
- Welding and fabrication skills, including cutting, welding, brazing, and soldering on metal sheet and plate.
- Ability to read and work from blueprints, sketches, charts, manuals, instruction books, and diagrams.
- Comfort working in very heavy industrial conditions, including dirty, hot, and non-climate-controlled areas.
- Ability to safely use hand tools, measuring devices, and common power tools such as drill presses, saws, grinders, brakes, benders, shears, iron workers, and pipe cutting and threading equipment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working on bucket elevators, screw jacks, and rotary valve feeders.
- Strong fabrication skills for building, modifying, and repairing industrial components.
- Experience operating hoists, cranes, and mobile equipment in support of maintenance activities.
- Ability to erect and disassemble scaffolding safely as part of repair work.
- Strong teamwork mindset and willingness to collaborate closely with electricians and other trades.
Job Type & Location
This is a Permanent position based out of Summerville, SC.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $86320.00/yr.
- 9.58% shift differential once they move onto swing shift (Approximately an extra 3/hr) - They can test every 6 months to test into higher tech level and get pay increase - Only non-union smelter facility in the U.S - 401K matches 6%. Benefits start on Day 1 (Full medical, dental and vision coverage – very competitive benefits and multiple options. You can get full copy during interview) - $300 tool stipend each year - All uniforms and PPE are provide by company, including prescription safety glasses - Free clinic onsite for check ups or any issues that happen during the day - Quarterly bonus up to 10% of what they have made in total that quarter. This is based on company profitability. They currently are averaging 4-6% per quarter o Quarter bonus is tied to attendance. - HUGE on promoting from within. They have a ton of supervisors/managers who have been there for 30-40 years and nearing retirement. This is agreat opportunity for people coming in to train and develop themselves for those roles - If you work 6 days in a row, on your 6th day you are paid x1.75. If you work 7 days in a row, your 7th day is double pay - Perfect attendance raffle every month to win a $250 gift cart - Food trucks onsite every day - Vacation: Start out immediately at 80 hours. 3 years, 152 hours, 5 years - 175 hours, 10 years - 192 hours, 15 years - 208 hour
