Student Classroom Aides provide part-time support within CSSC. They assist with student supervision and daily routines in morning care, afternoon extended day, nap time coverage, and transitions. These roles are essential in maintaining a safe, nurturing, and well-organized environment for preschool and elementary students.
Responsibilities:
AM Extended Day (7:30–8:20 AM) – 2 workers each day
· Arrive by 7:25 AM to clock in and prepare for student arrival.
· Set up tables with approved extended day materials (e.g., blocks, Legos, art supplies, games).
· Ensure that only materials marked for extended day use are accessible.
· Maintain a calm, supervised indoor environment (playground is closed during AM extended day).
· Guide students with breakfast routines (eat first, then play).
· Begin clean-up at 8:10 AM; ensure all students participate and that materials are properly stored.
· Escort elementary students to Room 107 at 8:15 AM and supervise until 8:20 AM (students must always be supervised).
· Escort preschool students to their classrooms following the elementary group.
· Maintain active supervision and avoid cell phone use unless explicitly permitted by a teacher.
Elementary (8:20 AM)
· Accompany students walking to their classrooms.
PM Extended Day (3:40–5:30 PM) (2 workers)
· Provide active supervision during unstructured playtime both indoors and on the playground.
· Remain attentive and mobile, positioning yourself to always see and support students.
· Enforce playground safety rules: Slide feet-first only; no climbing up slides; Swing safely front-to-back only; No rocks, sticks, mulch throwing; or unsafe behaviors; Preschool students only on bikes/scooters with helmets.
· Snack Time (4:30–4:45 PM): Serve dry snack foods and water; monitor handwashing before snack; Snack is only for enrolled preschool and elementary students; Students may take snack if picked up during this time; If approached by a parent about a child’s day, notify a classroom teacher—do not discuss student performance.
· Begin final clean-up at 5:00 PM; offer quiet activities (e.g., Legos, coloring) to simplify end-of-day transitions.
· At 5:30 PM, stack chairs and wipe down tables with disinfecting wipes.
Nap Coverage (12:30–2:15 PM)
· Assist students in preparing for rest with personal items (blanket, pillow, stuffed animal).
· Support teachers during story time and help settle students.
· Monitor nap time and offer quiet comfort (e.g., back rubbing) to help children fall asleep.
· Maintain silence during nap time—no phone use. Homework may be done only after students are asleep.
· Support students as they begin to wake up around 2:15 PM.
General Expectations
· Always maintain direct supervision of students.
· Use of cell phones during work time is strictly prohibited unless approved by a supervisor.
· Demonstrate responsibility, maturity, and professionalism in all interactions with students, families, and staff.
· Adhere to all school policies, safety procedures, and expectations for conduct.
