Mercy Flights is hiring for a Chief Pilot!

Position Summary

The Chief Pilot is a key leadership role responsible for supervising all flight crew personnel, overseeing training and qualification programs, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting daily flight operations under the guidance of the Director of Flight Operations.

This position will serve as a liaison with the FAA, support policy development, manage pilot records, ensure operational control as assigned, and maintain proficiency as a Pilot-in-Command in either Fixed Wing or Rotor Wing operations. Required Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.


Flight Experience

Chief Pilot candidate with no prior Chief Pilot experience:

  • Minimum 3 years PIC experience in Part 121 or 135 operations (large or small aircraft depending on fleet type).

Chief Pilot candidate with prior Chief Pilot experience:

  • Minimum 3 years prior experience as PIC under Part 121/135.

Minimum Flight Hours

  • Total Time: 2000 hours
  • Multi-Engine Land: 1000 hours
  • Pilot-in-Command: 500 hours

Certificates & Licenses

  • Commercial Pilot Certificate with Instrument rating (Airplane Multi-Engine Land or Rotorcraft-Helicopter).
  • Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) preferred.
  • First or Second Class Medical.
  • Valid Driver’s License.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, supervision, and operational oversight for all flight crew members.
  • Ensure pilots are trained, qualified, current, and compliant with all FAA Part 135 requirements.
  • Maintain operational control duties as assigned, including staffing the Operational Control Phone.
  • Serve as company liaison with the FAA; sign required correspondence and operational documents.
  • Support development, implementation, and communication of flight operations policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate closely with Maintenance and Operations leadership to ensure aircraft airworthiness and mission readiness.
  • Manage pilot scheduling, duty time records, training files, and pilot proficiency documentation.
  • Contribute to the Safety Management System (SMS), FOQA program, and incident follow-up processes.
  • Maintain proficiency as a Pilot-in-Command (Fixed Wing or Rotor Wing).
