Pride Health is hiring a Director, Nursing, Emergency Department to support our client’s medical facility basedin Brooklyn, New York 11212.. This is a 3 -month assignment with the possibility of a contract-to-hire opportunity and a great way to start working with a top-tier healthcare organization!


Job Title: Director, Nursing, Emergency Department

Location: Brooklyn, New York 11212.

Pay Range: $80/hr to $85/hr

Shift: Days, 8 AM – 4:00 PM, MUST BE FLEXIBLE TO WORK ADDITIONAL HOURS

Duration: 03 Months (Contract) with CONTRACT TO HIRE

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with the Senior Vice President for Patient Care Services and nursing leadership to develop and implement the department’s philosophy, goals, and strategic objectives.
  • Oversees nursing staffing plans to ensure safe, effective patient care across all units.
  • Ensures appropriate recruitment, hiring, and retention practices are in place and monitors staffing effectiveness.
  • Provides direct supervision and support to Assistant Directors of Nursing, Nurse Managers, and Administrative Nursing Coordinators.
  • Maintains a thorough understanding of legal, regulatory, and union requirements; provides clinical leadership to ensure compliance with state nursing practice standards.
  • Facilitates timely, effective communication with leadership, peers, staff, interdisciplinary departments, and medical staff.
  • Conducts regular meetings with Chairpersons of Services to coordinate planning and optimize patient care delivery.
  • Leads data-driven Performance Improvement (PI) initiatives aligned with the organization’s strategic goals, and demonstrates measurable outcomes.
  • Assists in developing departmental standards, policies, and guidelines that ensure safe, efficient, and effective patient care.
  • Collaborates in budget planning and resource allocation for the nursing division; monitors adherence to budgetary guidelines.
  • Supports staff development through ongoing education, training, and opportunities for clinical and professional advancement.
  • Oversees counseling and disciplinary processes; provides clinical consultation and expertise.
  • Represents the Department of Nursing on hospital committees and external professional groups.
  • Participates in continuing education activities to enhance administrative and clinical competencies.
  • Encourages innovation and promotes the implementation of evidence-based best practices.
  • Supports HCAHPS goals through outcome-driven service initiatives and communication strategies.
  • Promotes a collaborative team environment by fostering mutual respect, open feedback, and constructive relationships among team members.
  • Ensures consistent communication of hospital and departmental mission, vision, and strategic goals.
  • Conducts regular departmental meetings to share information, address concerns, and promote engagement.
  • Models professional behavior and builds strong interdisciplinary relationships across departments.
  • Develops and maintains effective partnerships with ancillary and support services to enhance patient care and departmental performance.
  • Establishes, monitors, and evaluates customer service improvement initiatives to drive patient satisfaction.

Licensure & Experience:

  • Registered Nurse (RN) licensed in [State].
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of progressive nursing experience, preferably in an acute care or integrated health system setting.

Technical & Analytical Skills:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Strong critical thinking and decision-making abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to collect, analyze, and present trend and evaluation data effectively.
  • Familiar with Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI), Root Cause Analysis, and Total Quality Management (TQM) principles.
  • Knowledgeable in clinical guidelines, performance metrics, and process management tools.
  • Experienced in applying quality improvement models in healthcare settings.

Regulatory & Compliance:

  • Working knowledge of regulatory standards including NYSDOH, Joint Commission (JCAHO), and other relevant bodies.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of healthcare regulations, safety standards, and industry best practices.

Leadership & Interpersonal Skills:

  • Demonstrated competence in leadership, team development, and administrative oversight.
  • Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships across departments and all levels of staff.
  • Proven team player with a collaborative and inclusive leadership style.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Displays professionalism, respect, and discretion in all interactions.

Physical & Environmental Demands:

  • Ability to work in a physically demanding, high-stress healthcare environment.
  • Occasional exposure to blood, body fluids, communicable diseases, chemicals, and radiation.
  • Must possess manual and finger dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and full range of motion for handling and lifting patients.
  • Capable of lifting and carrying items up to 35 pounds.
  • Extended periods of sitting, standing, walking, and working at a computer.
  • Corrected vision and hearing to normal range required.
  • Flexibility to adjust work hours as needed, including on-call responsibilities.

Education Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in nursing or related field.
    OR
    Minimum of ten (10) years of relevant Administrative/ Supervisory experience.

Required Certifications & Licensure:

  • Current New York State RN License.
    Basic Life Support (BLS).
    Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
    Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
    Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC).
