About US 1 Shorthaul's Transportation Manager Position:

JOB SUMMARY:

US 1 Shorthaul's Transportation Manager will manage all shifts in the locations at our customer’s distribution centers. The role is to efficiently and effectively manage our sites operations to provide excellent customer service and achievement of wider business objectives. The role will directly manage and be responsible for all operational staff on the sites to include administrative staff, and supervisors.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Comply with all DOT and FMCSA regulations.
  • The day-to-day management and planning of the yard operations in accordance with KPIs and in line with customer’s expectations.
  • Work in tandem with customer’s transportation staff to ensure moves are being executed safely and timely as well as weekly discussion for volumes, yard schedules, yard issues, etc.
  • Oversee daily operations, while controlling and managing personnel and logistics.
  • Supervise daily activities of the yard and office, including quality assurance, space management, logistics, and customer service.
  • Ensure that the demands of the distribution center are met and manage the flow and quality of work to maximize efficiency and minimize overtime.
  • Reviewing the as-is status of the yard and continuously identifying areas for improvement and efficiency planning.
  • Providing leadership to the yard staff including developmental plans, coaching of employees, and leading on engagement and culture.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by establishing, following, and enforcing standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations.
  • Daily/weekly completion or review of reports such as: auditing and approval of time sheets, complete billing of reports of labor distribution, upkeep of hours of service for driver logs, updating equipment metrics for each truck in NTC, monitoring PM’s in NTC, shuttle logs and others.
  • Conduct Driver interviews, hiring, onboarding and driver observations along with site supervisors if applicable.
  • Monitor DVIR’s and make sure repairs are made and equipment maintained.
  • Inspect equipment, tools, and machinery regularly, and oversee or request general maintenance as needed.
  • Addresses performance issues and employee relations situations that affect day-to-day operations of the branch.
  • Monitors all aspects of the day-to-day operations, insuring a safe and orderly facility in compliance with all state and federal regulations and requirements.
  • Develops and supports all branch personnel through on-going communication and training activities to maintain an effective team.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

  • Proficient knowledge of yard management, procedures, and policy.
  • Solid problem-solving, decision-making, and workforce management skills.
  • Ability to effectively lead/build a team.
  • Ability to work with all levels of company staff.
  • Comfortable delivering frequent direct written and oral feedback.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate proactively and professionally with internal and external contacts at various levels.
  • Ability to perform with little supervision in a timely manner and with acceptable quality.
  • Ability to handle a variety of changing situations under stress.
  • Ability to organize materials, manage time, and prioritize tasks to complete projects on or before specified deadlines.
  • Proficiency with computers/tablets and Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word and Excel.


POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:

  • This is a full-time, exempt (salary) position.
