Summary

The Healthcare Associate is responsible for verifying insurance coverage, coordinating patient supply needs, and facilitating communication between patients, providers, and insurance companies.

Essential Functions

  • Determines insurance eligibility and coverage for a variety of plans and patient-specific situations
  • Submits authorization requests to insurance in an accurate and timely manner
  • Communicates with patients and families to assess monthly supply needs, along with monthly orders
  • Screens patients for nutrition risk per established criteria
  • Communicates effectively with physicians and dietitians regarding patient needs and required documentation
  • Works directly with staff, patients, insurance companies and referral sources to ensure the best possible outcomes for our patients
  • Documents communication and action plans thoroughly


Required skills

  • Able to work in fast-paced, self-directed environment.
  • PC literate – Ability to use Excel, Word, PowerPoint & nutrition software - Brightree experience a plus
  • Communicate effectively and persuasively to a high volume of people throughout the workday.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent time management skills.
  • Decision-making, problem resolution and creative thinking skills.
  • Responds well to multi-tasking while providing exceptional customer service, support and responsiveness.
  • Proactive, curious, and demonstrates willingness to learn.

Physical Demands

This role is in a professional office setting with moderate noise level. The position requires regular use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filling cabinets, and fax machines. The work environment is fast-paced and may involve frequent interruptions, shifting priorities, and regular interaction with patients, families, referral sources, and clinical staff. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the role.
The position is primarily sedentary and requires the ability to sit for extended periods of time while performing computer-based tasks and telephone communications. The role involved frequent use of hands and fingers to operate computer keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment. The employee must be able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing. Occasional standing, walking, reaching, and light lifting (up to 10 pounds) may be required.


Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM CST and on-call.

Preferred Education and Experience

Associates degree preferred, high school diploma or GED required.
