• Verify patient identity and ensure accurate specimen labeling to prevent errors.

• Prepare, store, and transport specimens according to established protocols and laboratory requirements.

• Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary work area following OSHA, CLIA, and infection control guidelines.

• Review physician orders and requisitions for completeness and accuracy.

• Monitor specimen integrity and troubleshoot collection issues as needed.

• Provide excellent customer service by explaining procedures and ensuring patient comfort and privacy.

• Maintain accurate documentation of procedures performed in the patient’s medical record.

• Operate and maintain phlebotomy equipment and supplies, reporting any malfunctions or shortages promptly.

• Assist clinical staff with other patient care tasks when appropriate and within scope of practice.

• Adhere to HIPAA regulations and maintain strict patient confidentiality.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.

• Current and valid Phlebotomy Technician Certification (state or nationally recognized).

• Current CPR certification preferred.

• Minimum of 1 year of phlebotomy experience in a clinical or laboratory setting preferred.

• Knowledge of medical terminology, laboratory protocols, and infection control practices.

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.

• Manual dexterity to handle needles, tubes, and small instruments.

• Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.

Work Environment:

• Medical office/clinic setting with exposure to bloodborne pathogens, biohazard materials, and infectious diseases (PPE provided).
