Senior Petroleum Engineer - CO2 Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR)
Job Description
Job Description
We are a performance-driven oil & gas company focused on optimizing mature assets and unlocking value through advanced CO2 Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) methods. With multiple ongoing CO2 flood projects and a robust pipeline of new opportunities, we are seeking a Senior Petroleum Engineer to lead the planning, execution, and optimization of our CO2 operations.
Position Summary:
As a Senior Petroleum Engineer, you will take technical ownership of CO2 EOR projects from concept to implementation. You will guide field development strategy, mentor junior engineers, and play a key role in driving production performance and reservoir recovery using CO2 injection. This is a highly collaborative role interfacing with reservoir, production, and facilities teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, execution, and performance monitoring of CO2 EOR projects across multiple assets.
- Analyze reservoir, injection, and production data to improve sweep efficiency and CO2 utilization.
- Develop and optimize injection patterns, conformance control techniques, and surveillance plans.
- Recommend well workovers, recompletions, and artificial lift improvements in CO2-affected wells.
- Collaborate with surface and operations teams to ensure safe and efficient CO2 injection and recycling.
- Prepare and present technical evaluations, AFEs, and economic justifications for field projects.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on CO2 flooding techniques, MMP, and fluid interaction behaviors.
- Ensure regulatory compliance with injection permits, Class II wells, and state/federal CO2 reporting.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Petroleum Engineering or related discipline.
- 8+ years of upstream oil & gas experience, with significant exposure to CO2 EOR operations.
- Demonstrated expertise in miscible CO2 flooding, field development planning, and well interventions.
- Experience working on mature fields with active or legacy CO2 floods (Permian Basin, Gulf Coast, etc.).
- Solid understanding of CO2 surface facility requirements including compression, dehydration, and recycling systems.
- Proven leadership and mentoring skills with ability to influence multidisciplinary teams.
Preferred Experience:
- History matching of CO2 floods and integration with reservoir simulation
- Conformance improvement techniques (gel treatments, mechanical zonal isolation).
- Familiarity with ESG reporting and carbon management practices related to CO2 injection.
