Position Overview:
WEBERMESSICK TAX & ACCOUNTING is seeking a Senior Tax Accountant to prepare complex tax returns, review returns prepared by staff accountants, and provide proactive year-round tax planning strategies for both business and individual clients. The ideal candidate will have a firm understanding of tax regulations and laws, the ability to verify accuracy on tax returns, and strong communication skills for client interactions.
Job Responsibilities:
- Prepare various federal and multi-state income tax returns, including forms 1040 (schedules C & E), 1041, 1065, 1120, 1120S, 990
- Review tax returns prepared by staff accountants to identify errors and ensure accuracy before going to partner for final review
- Interact with clients regarding their tax returns
- Prepare and review other tax filings, such as personal property tax returns, annual reports, state composite returns, and payroll tax returns
- Provide coaching and training to staff accountants
- Perform year-end review of books and recommend necessary adjustments
- Research and prepare work papers for various book to tax differences
- Prepare estimated federal and state income tax payments
- Recommend tax strategies by researching federal, state, and local taxation issues
- Assist in tax audits and notices
- Maintain understanding and compliance with tax regulations and laws
- Provide input in improving firm policies and standard operating procedures

Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree
- CPA preferred
- At least 3-5 years in public accounting
- Proficient in QuickBooks and Microsoft Office
- Experience using tax software
- Attention to detail and deadlines
- Ability to work longer hours during tax season
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Effective time and project management
- Work independently
