Position Summary:

Responsible for managing, directing and coordinating production activities in the machining departments while complying with quality and safety policies and procedures to meet company goals and objectives.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Plan, assign, and direct daily duties for machining personnel; provides direction on the allocation of resources to maintain production deadlines
  • Responsible for monitoring production throughput and planning adjustments such as expediting operations which have fallen behind schedule
  • Provide daily communication with management, particularly of unforeseen events which may contribute to manufacturing delays
  • Be available for and manage daily shift turn-over in Machining
  • Participate in the recruiting, hiring and training of new employees for the Machining department
  • Responsible for direct management of department personnel; includes annual performance reviews, pay increases, authorization of overtime and PTO, verbal and written disciplinary action
  • Ensure that all machining employees work in accordance with SOPs and industry standards
  • Help execute setups and/or operation of CNC machines and equipment
  • Lead by example, including working side by side with production employees to understand and remove barriers to throughput.
  • Identify needs for custom ERP reports that would improve manufacturing efficiencies and effectiveness
  • Assist in order planning, for example lot sizes, job quantities and Kanban quantities
  • Provide input on improvement to methods, operations and production rate inaccuracies
  • Collaborate with purchasing to proactively coordinate with O/S providers to meet critical due dates
  • Assist in resolving discrepancies in time reporting, open quantities, shortages, etc.
  • Identify opportunities for lean manufacturing training and implementation i.e., set up reduction, 5S, and other opportunities for improvement


Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • 5 years' experience working in a contract manufacturing environment, preferably CNC Milling, Lathe, and Swiss machining
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience supervising production personnel
  • Due to contractual requirements, this position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Engineering background highly desirable
  • Experience with lean manufacturing implementation preferred
  • Demonstrated problem solving ability
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Work independently without excessive supervision, disciplined and self-motivated
  • Ability to read blueprints/drawings
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with colleagues to achieve company goals and objectives
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer satisfaction
  • Strong computer skills, with MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) experience
  • Experience working in an ERP system (Epicor a plus)
