About the Role:
In anticipation of future government awards, GiaCare Inc. is now accepting applications for Cardiovascular Technicians to support Walter Reed National Medical Centerin Bethesda, Maryland and Fort Belvoir Community Hospital (FBCH) in Fort Belvoir, Virginia.
Education and Experience:
- Cardiovascular technicians shall possess a high school diploma or equivalent. In addition, an associate diploma, baccalaureate and/or master’s degree and must be a graduate form an accredited school of cardiovascular and interventional training from at least one state or territory in the United States. Verification of education shall be supplied by the contractor in the pre-employment packet.
- Cardiovascular Technicians shall have a minimum of 5 years catheterization laboratory work experience obtained after graduating from an accredited school of cardiovascular and interventional training. The contract cardiovascular technician shall be proficient on the selection, function and use of diagnostic and interventional sheaths, catheters, guidewires, guide catheters, balloon tipped catheters, stents, inflation devices, hemostasis valves, and access needles. The contract cardiovascular technician shall be proficient and function in but not limited to the following procedures: Left heart catheterization, Right heart catheterizations, Left ventricular gram, Percutaneous angioplasty, Percutaneous cardiac interventions, coronary stent placements, foreign body retrieval, Intravascular/cardiac ultrasound, Fractional flow reserve, coronary valve measurements, percutaneous cardiocentesis, cardioversion. The contract cardiovascular technician must be able to learn and function in procedures such as but not limited to: Drain placements, angiograms/angioplasty, thrombectomy/thrombolysis, nephrostomy tube placement, port placement/removal, paracentesis, thoracentesis, venaseal and biopsy procedures.
Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Possess a current, active, valid, Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) certification.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
Duties:

Perform as scrub assistant, circulator, monitor, and imaging equipment operator during IR and cardiac procedures.

Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, obtain vitals, initiate IV access, perform 12-lead EKGs, and document in electronic medical records.

Assist with lab draws, specimen handling, and point-of-care testing; ensure accurate documentation and processing.

Prepare and administer procedural sedation and adjunctive pharmacotherapy per clinical protocols, including post-procedure monitoring.

Operate physiological monitors and interpret cardiac rhythms, pressure waveforms, and ischemic indicators.

Set up and operate radiologic equipment including C-arms, digital subtraction angiography, and fluoroscopy.

Support invasive procedures including cardiac catheterization, foreign body retrieval, stent placements, intra-aortic balloon pumps, embolization, and pacemakers.

Operate pressure injectors, ultrasound, and fractional flow reserve devices; recognize contrast media types and contrast reactions.

Manage equipment, inventory, and emergency readiness, including lead apron maintenance, dosimeter tracking, and crash cart checks.

Perform and document unit readiness using daily, weekly, and monthly equipment checklists; complete supply requisitions and maintenance work orders as needed.

Facilitate patient recovery, clean and restock procedure rooms, and assist with patient transportation, including air evacuations involving critical support devices.

Train new staff and students; contribute to ongoing competency programs and serve in rotational lead tech assignments.

Participate in 24/7 STEMI and IR on-call response team for urgent and emergent cases.
