About Coach Across America

Founded in 2010, Coach Across America is a national service organization dedicated to inspiring youth to achieve their potential by connecting them with coaches trained in positive youth development. We do this by identifying, training, and supporting coaches who bring sports-based youth development to partner organizations in the most underserved communities.


What Youll Do

This Coach Across America member will serve at Wrestling to Beat the Streets DC, expanding girls wrestling opportunities in Washington, DC, coordinating with current staff to lead coed and girls wrestling practices, and promoting the sport to girls in the area. Wrestling to Beat the Streets DC is a nonprofit organization that uses wrestling as a conduit for youth development opportunities, facilitates the startup of wrestling programs at public high schools in under-served areas, and offers year-round supplemental youth development and wrestling programming for participating student-athletes. You will receive sports-based youth development training to positively impact youth mental and physical well-being as part of a collaborative team.


Role Title: Girls Wrestling Coach

Role Type: OJJDP Service Position

Service Term: 8 month position (900 hours between Feb. 2026 and Sept. 30, 2026)

Living Allowance: $13,500.00 (paid biweekly)

Education Award: $3,000 (upon successful completion of service hours)

Expected Hours Per Week: 30 hours per week on average

Primary Location: Practice Facility in LEnfant Plaza, Washington, DC


Coach Role and Responsibilities

This Coach Across America coach will champion Beat the Streets DCs initiative to grow girls wrestling in Washington DC, coordinating closely with current leadership and staff to lead wrestling practices and promote the sport to girls in the area.


Responsibilities will include:

  • Facilitate weekly practices for youth and high school student athletes at Beat the Streets DCs training facility (weekdays from 3:30-7:00 p.m.)
  • Support student-athletes during winter high school wrestling season daily afterschool
  • Attend local and regional youth wrestling tournaments with Beat the Streets DC teams (dates TBD)
  • Conduct school/community outreach and lead recruitment events to promote girls engagement
  • Track and monitor program metrics, including data collection activities directed by the Coach Across America Program Lead
  • Encourage participants to gain and develop life skills, knowledge, and techniques through sport, using lessons learned at Coach Across Americas best-in-class training events
  • Act as a role model, gaining the respect and trust of the community and youth served


Additional Requirements

Coach Across America coaches must complete the following requirements to ensure successful completion of the OJJDP service program:

  • Completion of the minimum required hours of service and training by last day of coach contract
  • Attendance at the Coach Orientation
  • Completion of bi-weekly timesheets
  • Attendance at days of community service
  • Attend/participate in Coach Across America trainings, meetings, and special initiatives


Uniform Policy

Coaches must wear Coach Across America branded t-shirts provided by Coach Across America when coaching and at program sessions and events.


Eligibility & Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be a current or former wrestler with demonstrated interest in sports-based youth development programs ready to take their career to the next level as the leader of an emerging initiative.

  • The program is open to U.S. citizens, nationals, or lawful permanent residents.
  • Volunteers must be 18 years old, or 17 with written parental/guardian consent.
  • Volunteers must have or be working toward a High School diploma, GED, or the equivalent.
  • Previous Sports Based Youth Development, non-profit, or related education or experience.
  • Experience in social media, public relations, and/or outreach.
  • Coaching and/or wrestling experience preferred.
  • Self-starter with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
