Position Summary

The Administrative Director of Emergency Services provides executive-level leadership and oversight for Emergency Services across multiple sites and/or functional areas. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care while driving operational excellence, staff engagement, financial performance, and strategic growth. The Director fosters a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement aligned with organizational goals.

ResponsibilitiesQuality & Patient Safety

  • Lead and advance evidence-based practices to improve patient safety, quality outcomes, and clinical performance.

  • Ensure adherence to professional standards of care and regulatory requirements.

  • Monitor internal and external benchmarks, accreditations, and quality designations; lead initiatives to achieve and sustain excellence.

  • Develop and implement patient throughput strategies, including capacity planning, patient flow coordination, and admission/discharge processes.

  • Direct nursing practice and unit operations, ensuring patient and family needs are assessed, met, and evaluated.

Service & Patient Experience

  • Drive an exceptional patient experience by promoting accountability for consistent, compassionate care.

  • Leverage patient and stakeholder feedback to identify improvement opportunities and implement service enhancement strategies.

  • Collaborate with patient experience leaders and subject matter experts to ensure evidence-based service delivery.

People & Culture

  • Foster a culture aligned with the organization’s mission, vision, and values.

  • Lead workforce engagement, recognition, development, and retention initiatives.

  • Identify training and professional development needs; provide coaching and performance feedback.

  • Build high-performing teams by aligning talent with organizational and service line needs.

Growth & Strategy

  • Partner with administrative leaders and physicians to enhance existing services and develop new service offerings.

  • Identify opportunities for growth, innovation, and service expansion.

  • Monitor healthcare industry trends, regulatory changes, reimbursement models, and competitive dynamics to position services strategically.

  • Represent the organization positively within the community and participate in outreach and engagement activities.

Finance & Operations

  • Participate in annual budgeting and financial planning, including staffing, equipment, and supply forecasting.

  • Monitor budget performance, identify variances, and implement corrective action plans.

  • Ensure effective labor management, productivity optimization, and responsible use of premium staffing.

  • Identify and implement cost containment and efficiency initiatives without compromising quality of care.

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of recent (within the past year) Acute Care Emergency Department Director-level experience

  • Freestanding Emergency Department (FSED) leadership experience strongly preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred

  • Master’s degree preferred

  • Demonstrated leadership in quality improvement, operations, and team development
