Job Description

The Human Resource Manager is responsible for leading all HR functions for Waikiki Resort Hotel and overseeing administrative operations, including recruitment, employee relations, labor relations, policy development, training, and compliance. This position ensures that HR strategies align with hotel operations, support a positive workplace culture, and comply with applicable laws, the hotel’s Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), and Waikiki Resort Hotel standards.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement HR policies and procedures in compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws, as well as internal policies
  • Handle employee relations issues, investigations, progressive discipline, and conflict resolution.
  • Handle recruitment, onboarding, and orientation processes for new hires.
  • Manage payroll, timekeeping, and employee benefit programs in coordination with the finance team.
  • Coordinate training and development programs to enhance staff skills and performance.
  • Ensure compliance with the Waikiki Resort Hotel’s Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and represent management in labor-management matters.
  • Serve as the hotel’s point of contact for union inquiries, grievances, and contract enforcement.
  • Partner with corporate legal counsel and external labor attorneys when needed.
  • Advise management on HR best practices, organizational development, and strategic planning.
  • Oversee and ensure confidentiality and security of personnel records and sensitive information.
  • Manage Family and Medical Leave (FMLA), Temporary Disability Insurance (TDI), ADA, Workers’ Compensation, and return-to-work programs.
  • Lead the administration of employee evaluations, performance improvement plans (PIPs), and coaching.


Qualifications

  • High School or equivalent education required.
  • 3-5 years of experience in HR and/or administrative roles, preferably in hospitality.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS software systems.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with Hawaii labor laws, including HFLL, TDI, and Department of Labor procedures.
  • Ability to manage sensitive issues with discretion and professionalism.
  • Experience developing or coordinating training programs, including customer service, safety, harassment prevention, and management development.
  • Strong administrative skills in managing employee files, onboarding, benefits enrollment, and compliance tracking.


Preferred Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Hotel Management, Human Resources, Hospitality, Business Administration or related major.
  • Experience with collective bargaining agreements (CBA).
  • Familiarity with Opera PMS and Sage 100 (or similar systems).
  • Multilingual abilities, especially in Korean or Japanese, are a plus.
  • Ability to analyze HR metrics such as turnover, absenteeism, labor costs, and workforce trends to recommend actionable improvements.
  • Skilled in conducting employee counseling, disciplinary actions, and progressive discipline aligned with CBA standards.
  • Confident working with department heads and ownership groups to align HR strategy with business goals.
  • Ability to navigate sensitive issues, promote company culture, and support employee satisfaction.


Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and use computer systems.
  • May occasionally be required to lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Able to work extended hours including evenings, weekends, or holidays as needed.
