Pay Type: Hourly, non exempt. Full-time, 40 hours per week

Department: Engineering

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

The purpose of this position is to assist in the maintaining of geographic information systems data for the city.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Responsible for organizing, maintaining, and updating the City's GIS data. This duty is performed daily.
  1. Responsible for assisting all City employees who work with GIS data, regardless of department. This duty is performed daily.
  1. Responsible for consulting with outside organizations to improve GIS integrity and usefulness and reduce duplicate efforts. This duty is performed as needed.
  1. Responsible for database development, consulting, and technical specifications on geospatial framework data. This duty is performed daily.
  1. Responsible for ensuring that GIS data remains updated as the City develops. This duty is performed daily.
  1. Responsible for maintaining the integrity of data for entry into the Jonesboro GIS Databases. This duty is performed daily.
  1. Recommend solutions for large scale geospatial database design utilizing digital ortho-photography, global positioning systems and satellite or other remotely sensed image products. This duty is performed as needed.
  1. Provides GIS data to City employees and to the public as needed. This duty is performed as needed.
  1. Performs analysis on GIS data. This duty is performed on a regular basis.
  1. Integrates data from other sources into the Jonesboro GIS. This duty is performed daily.
  1. Operating a city vehicle is required for the essential functions. This duty if performed occasionally.
  1. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Broad knowledge of such fields as Geography, Biological Science, Earth Science or related fields. As well as experience with ESRI Suite of GIS software. Equivalent to a four year college degree, plus 2 years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and policy/procedure manuals; Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of algebra, solid geometry and trigonometry.

CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

USE OF MACHINES, EQUIPMENT AND/OR COMPUTERS

Frequent personal computer support, Assistance in use of Data in GIS systems, technical help, and/or, basic ESRI GIS software support, database analysis, level I technician, project coordination, installation and help desk.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Normal working conditions as found within an office setting, wherein there is controlled temperature and a low noise level, plus a minimum of distractions. Occasional outside conditions related to data accuracy and verification
