We are a dermatology practice searching for a Medical Assistant who is devoted to providing outstanding dermatology patient care. The MA will support doctors and patients through a variety of tasks related to patient care management, organization and communication. The target is to complete all activities accurately, with high quality and in a timely manner.
Principle Duties: The Medical Assistant is considered an essential part of our ability to provide high-quality dermatologic care. This role includes but is not limited to:
- Checking-in and interviewing patients, collecting chief complaint, vital signs and history.
- Charting and scribing the patient encounter in the patient’s electronic medical record.
- Assisting with common dermatology procedures and skin surgeries.
- Assist with patient wound care visits and bandage changes.
- Ability to clearly communicate wound care instructions to patients.
- Setting up tools and the patient for procedures.
- Prepare and clean medical instruments and exam rooms for patient encounters and/or procedures.
- Administrative duties such as fielding phone calls, informing patients of their lab or pathology results.
- Produce and distribute correspondence memos, letters, faxes and forms.
- Stocking and maintaining important inventory and supplies for the practice.
Minimum Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have:
(i) a high school diploma or equivalent degree;
(ii) ability to interact and communicate well as a team and with others, in person or by telephone, including occasional difficult or frustrated customers or patients,
(iiii) ability to report to work with consistent attendance, prepared to work well in a fast-paced environment of a dermatology clinic.
(iv) have attention to detail in their actions with the goal to provide the best patient care possible
(v) Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work
(vi) Social perceptiveness and service oriented
(vii) Excellent written and verbal communication skills
(viii) Strong organizing and planning skills
Preferred Qualifications: Currently certified/Registered Medical Assistant. Preference is for applicants who have graduated from an accredited program as a Certified Medical Assistant or have extensive experience in dermatology;
Additionally:
- Experience in a dermatology office setting is preferred.
- Knowledge of common dermatology procedures and terminology is preferred.
- Experience charting and interacting with an electronic medical program is preferred.
- Ability to maintain a positive mental attitude.
- Ability to teach patients as well as other team members.Physical Demands: The following is required to adequately fulfill the role of the certified medical assistant:
- Significant amount of walking throughout the clinic is required.
- Assisting patients to and from the waiting room to the exam rooms, also be able to help patients climb up to and down from the exam table/chair.
- Being able to reach in shelves that are high overhead or down close to the floor to gather supplies and tools for the patient’s visit and/or procedure.
- Occasional lifting may be required (up to 20 lbs).
- Data entry (typing) into a computer or tablet is required for documenting the patient visit or encounter.
Work Environment: We believe in a welcoming environment for all. However, occasionally healthcare situations can be stressful. Difficult encounters with frustrated patients is rare but also a part of the job. Medical Assistants may be exposed to this, but our practice strives to create a safe and enjoyable workplace. Occasional exposure to certain hazardous chemicals and biological specimens is also expected, however the practice maintains strict protocols, employee training, and limits exposure to these agents in every way possible.'
We have two locations: Santa Barbara and Solvang. The MA will support the physician in our Solvang location on a rotating schedule with other MAs in the practice.
