Sorting Center Operations / Site Supervisor/Manager
Employment Type: Full-time
Reports to: Operations Manager / Regional Operations Lead
Position Summary
The Sorting Center Operations Lead is responsible for overseeing daily on-site operations at a small-scale sorting center. This role focuses on coordinating agency labor, managing end-to-end parcel flow, and ensuring smooth execution of pickup, linehaul receiving, sortation, last-mile dispatch, and outbound shipping. The position requires strong hands-on operational execution, real-time problem solving, and close coordination with internal and external partners.
Key Responsibilities
1.On-Site Operations Execution
Oversee daily sorting center operations, including pickup intake, linehaul receiving, sorting, staging, and outbound shipping
Ensure parcels are processed accurately and dispatched on schedule to support last-mile delivery operations
Monitor real-time workflow and adjust staffing and priorities based on volume and operational conditions
2. Agency Labor Coordination
Coordinate and supervise on-site agency workers during shifts, ensuring adherence to SOPs and safety standards
Provide task assignments, workflow guidance, and on-the-spot training as needed
Monitor labor productivity and escalate performance or attendance issues to agency supervisors
3. Linehaul Receiving & Outbound Dispatch
Manage inbound linehaul arrivals, unloading, and receiving verification
Coordinate outbound linehaul departures and last-mile dispatch routing and loading
Ensure proper staging, labeling, and documentation for outbound shipments
6. Last-Mile Dispatch & Route Coordination
Support last-mile route planning and dispatch execution based on daily volume and cutoff times
Coordinate with dispatchers and drivers to ensure efficient route allocation and on-time departures
Assist in adjusting routes and load plans to handle volume fluctuations or service exceptions
7. Exception & Issue Resolution
Identify, investigate, and resolve operational exceptions, including mis-sorts, damaged parcels, missing items, and delivery constraints
Coordinate with customer service, warehouse, and transportation teams to close exception cases
Maintain accurate records of exceptions and corrective actions
8. Safety, Quality & Compliance
Enforce safety protocols and operational SOPs on the floor
Ensure proper handling of parcels to minimize damage and loss
Report incidents, near misses, and operational risks to management
9. Reporting & Communication
Track daily operational metrics, including volume processed, on-time dispatch, and exception rates
Provide daily operational updates and shift summaries to management
Communicate real-time issues, delays, or capacity constraints promptly
Qualifications
2–4 years of experience in sorting center, warehouse, cross-dock, or last-mile operations
Hands-on experience managing agency or contingent labor in a warehouse environment
Strong understanding of parcel flow, linehaul receiving, and last-mile dispatch operations
Ability to manage real-time operational issues in a fast-paced environment
Strong communication and coordination skills
