Environmental Health & Safety Specialist | Walker, MI

Salary Range: $66,000 - $99,000 depending on experience

The Opportunity

Key Responsibilities

Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA).
Conduct regular EHS inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify hazards and ensure adherence to safety protocols.
Develop, implement, and deliver EHS training programs for all employees, including new hire orientation and specialized topics.
Investigate all EHS incidents, accidents, and near misses, determining root causes and implementing effective corrective actions.
Manage hazardous waste streams, ensuring proper segregation, storage, disposal, and record-keeping in accordance with regulations.
Develop and maintain site-specific EHS programs, policies, and procedures (e.g., Lockout/Tagout, confined space entry, hazard communication).
Oversee the maintenance of all required environmental permits and licenses, ensuring timely renewals and compliance.

Recommended Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related scientific field.
3-5 years of EHS experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
In-depth knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and state-specific environmental and safety regulations.
Proven ability to develop, implement, and manage EHS programs (e.g., LOTO, confined space, hazardous waste).
Strong communication, training, and incident investigation skills.

Bonus Qualifications

Experience with Lean manufacturing principles or Six Sigma methodologies.
Proficiency with EHS management software platforms (e.g., Intelex, Cority, Sphera).
Certification or experience as an internal auditor for ISO 14001 or ISO 45001.
HAZWOPER certification or experience in hazardous waste management.
