St. Paul Academy and Summit School seeks candidates for the position of Middle School Athletics Administrator.

About St. Paul Academy and Summit School:

St. Paul Academy and Summit School (SPA) is a coeducational, non-sectarian, college preparatory day school serving more than 920 students in kindergarten through grade 12. Our two campuses are located approximately a mile apart in St. Paul, Minnesota, serving Grades K-5 on our Goodrich Campus and Grades 6-12 on our Randolph Campus. The school draws students from St. Paul, Minneapolis, and throughout the eastern and western suburbs.

About the Middle School:

The Middle School at SPA is a place where students in Grades 6-8 experience the transition from childhood to young adulthood safely and surrounded by adults who care. Our culture is defined by our warm and welcoming community, our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and our innovative and rigorous curriculum. The Middle School curriculum emphasizes wide-ranging exploration and skill development in specific disciplines, taught by teachers who understand and genuinely enjoy students at this age. Organization and accountability are emphasized, and students learn to take responsibility for managing their work.


In the Middle School, students are challenged to embrace new ideas and think independently. The classroom experience is based on increased academic rigor combined with increased freedom of choice and support for the social/emotional needs of young adolescents is provided using Developmental Designs for Middle School. Finally, the advisory system sets clear standards and expectations for individual behavior and community norms.


Position Begins: September 2025 - June 2026

Status: Interim, exempt, part-time, .50 FTE

Salary Range: $25,000-$30,000

Position Description

The St. Paul Academy and Summit School Middle School(MS) Athletics Administrator is responsible for implementing, coordinating, and maintaining all middle school athletic programs. These programs include competition by 25+ teams/programs in 12 sports over three seasons with 250+ students and 70+ coaches annually. This administrative Leader will help shape the future of the athletics program and collaborate with the Athletics Director, other athletics administrators, coaches, and student athletes in implementing an Athletics Strategic Plan and Vision. The Middle Athletics Administrator must reflect and promote the institutional mission serving both the minds and the hearts of our student-athletes that will one day change the world. Through a balance of individual character building and team achievement, the MS Athletics Administrator is charged with cultivating a shared vision characterized by respect for the game, athletes, coaches, and officials, and one in which success is defined through the life lessons learned through participation in educational-based athletics programs. The MS Athletics Administrator works closely with other athletics administrators, coaches and athletes to develop and sustain a culture in which the athletics vision - The Spartan Way - is attained and nourished.


Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Athletics Director and the Middle School(MS) administrative team and academic staff to assure alignment with the overall academic mission of the school
  • Collaborate with the Athletics Director in the hiring, on/off-boarding, training, evaluating,
  • mentoring/developing and retaining an engaged and responsive coaching staff
  • Develop, manage, and assess all MS athletic programs to ensure that they align with the SPA’s athletics mission, values, and goals
  • Assist in the development and oversight of the Middle School Athletics Department budget
  • Work with interested student athletes and their families to ensure athletic interest and eligibility are fully met by all SPAs in advance of competition
  • Communicate information, schedules, operations, and tasks on a weekly basis(at a minimum) to all coaches of in-season sports/activities and, when necessary, families of student athletes
  • Address active MS student athlete and parent concerns with MS administration
  • Schedule and plan for all Middle School (MS) athletic events (contests/matches/play days), arrange transportation, officials, supervision, and the successful use of facilities
  • Develop and manage a MS student athlete leadership(SAL) group to enhance programs, discuss programs and gain feedback for athletics with the MS administrative team
  • Work in collaboration with the Athletics Director, the US director, and the operations coordinator to ensure quality programs and operations in athletics
  • Organize equipment procurement and coordination of athletics supplies for the MS
  • Assure adherence to and enforcement of all governing body rules, bylaws, and school policies and practices for all activity programs and participants.
  • Provide for successful game/event management, providing support to coaches, event staff, volunteers and officials; serve as the school’s representative at events
  • Represent the school to and serve to advance its interests by serving as an active member in the school’s conference affiliation (IMAC and CAA), the Minnesota State High School League, Region and the state’s Athletic Directors’ organization
  • Proactively provide guidance, advice, and analysis to the Athletics Director and other school leadership on current and future co-curricular programming needs and trends
  • Assist in the advancement of the school’s athletics strategic needs and evaluation of future activity and athletic programming.
  • Effective cross-cultural communication skills. Able to operate effectively in diverse environments and interact successfully with people from widely varying backgrounds in a friendly and professional manner.

Requirements:

  • Support the mission of SPA and the vision of the Middle School.
  • Have completed a bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Experience in athletics (scheduling, communications, staffing and funding in an educational-based school athletics program is desired).
  • Knowledge of the Minnesota State High School League, the IMAC and CAA Bylaws and Organization is desired
  • Skilled in appropriate software to perform tasks as assigned (may include but not limited to database system management experience)
  • Perform all duties in a manner that promotes the mission in a professional manner.
  • Must be dependable, punctual, and possess an attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with a diverse group of people
  • Provide positive and timely communication with students, parents, vendors, and colleagues while maintaining strict confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Work well independently and possess the ability to collaborate with and support other constituents as the position requires.
  • Lift and move using proper techniques up to 50 pounds
  • Work 20 hours per week including evening and weekend work


The ideal candidate will have:

  • A strong and nuanced understanding of the social and emotional development of MS students.
  • A proven record of participating in and/or coaching in a variety of sports (at the middle school level)
  • A strong record of administrative success, including mentoring and supervising of coaches
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in a variety of mediums
  • Be highly organized and work effectively with a broad range of constituencies, including coaches, parents, faculty/staff, and students.
  • Ability to successfully encourage community participation in athletics.
  • Training and experience in Developmental Designs for Middle School is preferred.
