Underground Utility Project Manager
$95,000 – $120,000 DOE + Benefits Employment Type: Full-Time
About the Opportunity
A well-established and growing construction firm is seeking an experienced Underground Utility Project Manager to lead and deliver complex underground infrastructure projects from pre-construction through closeout. What You'll Be Doing
- Manage all phases of underground utility projects including water, sewer, storm drain, dry utilities, and related infrastructure
- Oversee project schedules, budgets, subcontractors, and self-perform crews to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery
- Serve as the primary point of contact for owners, engineers, municipalities, and utility companies
- Review and interpret plans, specifications, and contracts to identify scope, risks, and opportunities
- Lead project meetings, prepare progress reports, and maintain accurate project documentation
- Collaborate closely with estimating during the bid process and support handoff to field operations
- Manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, and pay applications
- Ensure full compliance with safety standards, local regulations, and permitting requirements
- Mentor and develop junior project engineers and field staff
What We're Looking For
- 5–8 years of project management experience in underground utility or civil construction
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage projects valued at $3M–$20M+
- Strong understanding of underground systems: water/sewer/storm, conduit, directional drilling, open-cut excavation
- Proficiency with project management and scheduling software (Procore, Primavera P6, MS Project, or similar)
- Solid knowledge of contract documents, change management, and cost control
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with owners and field teams
- OSHA 30 certification preferred
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred — equivalent field experience considered
