Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position at a Level 1 Trauma, academic teaching hospital, working 12-hour night shifts with a minimum of 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience required.
Details
- Inpatient Med/Surg Telemetry unit in a 637-licensed-bed Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital with Chest Pain and Stroke Center designations
- 35-bed unit consistently at full census
- Patient population includes adults with acute or chronic illness, post-op surgical patients, and common med-surg comorbidities such as diabetes, hypertension, CHF, infections, and electrolyte imbalances
- RN-to-patient ratio of 1:4–6, supported by LPNs and CNAs
- Telemetry monitored via a Central Telemetry Unit
- Procedures include trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, Glucommander, insulin drips, heparin drips, IV insertion, central line management, wound care, and post-op monitoring
- EMR: Epic (experience noted)
- Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, Philips monitors, portable vital sign monitors (Dynamap), bladder scanners, external fixators, JP/Hemovac drains, PCA pain management, and suction machines
- 12-hour night shifts, 7p–7a, 36 hours per week
- Weekend rotation: 6 shifts per 6-week schedule
- Floating required to all adult Med/Surg and Telemetry units within the facility
- No on-call or call-back requirements
Requirements
- Active GA or Compact RN license required
- BLS and Basic Cardiac Rhythm (BCR) certifications required; candidates must pass an EKG competency exam
- ACLS preferred but not required
- Medical-Surgical national certification preferred
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Telemetry RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Experience at a Level 1 Trauma or academic teaching hospital preferred
- Proficiency with telemetry interpretation, cardiac monitoring, IV therapy, central line management, wound care, and drip titration required
- Epic EMR experience
- One professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN required for consideration
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
Additional Information
- CNAs assist with vital signs, glucose checks, bathing, feeding, ambulation, turning, hourly rounding, and patient transport; a dedicated hospital transport team is also available
- Unit secretaries are on the unit from 7a–11p; house-wide call secretary coverage from 11p–7a
- Charge nurses, discharge nurses, and a resource float team provide additional support; respiratory therapy, hospitalists, and intensivists are available 24/7
- Nurses draw labs from CVLs; a PICC team is available but there is no general IV team
- Orientation consists of 1 day of facility orientation with educational modules followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
- Travelers are expected to cover 75% of holidays
- RN scrub color: Navy
