Patient Service Representative
Pride Health is hiring a Patient Service Representative for one of its clients in NYC, New York, 10029.
This is a 24-Week contract with the possibility of extension with competitive pay and benefits.
Job Title: Patient Service Representative
Pay Rate: $18- $20 per hour
Location: NYC, New York
Schedule: Shift: 7 hours a day/ 35 hours per week
Contract Length: 24 Weeks
Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Patient Service Representative to support daily front office operations within a busy physician practice or medical office environment. This role serves as the first point of contact for patients both in person and over the phone, ensuring excellent customer service while maintaining accurate patient information, scheduling, and HIPAA compliance.
The ideal candidate will have prior physician practice or medical office insurance verification experience, strong communication skills, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet patients in person and via telephone in a professional and courteous manner
- Verify and update patient demographics and insurance information
- Confirm physician participation with patient insurance plans
- Schedule and confirm patient appointments
- Obtain referrals and insurance authorizations as required
- Collect co-pays and process payments following cash-handling procedures
- Maintain HIPAA compliance and protect patient confidentiality
- Communicate patient arrivals and appointment updates with clinical staff
- Answer incoming calls and provide excellent telephone support
- Monitor waiting room flow and communicate delays or wait times to patients
- Assist patients with medical records request procedures
- Perform data entry, simple charge entry, and administrative support tasks as needed
- Conduct reminder calls for upcoming appointments
- Support additional front office duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Minimum 1 year of physician practice or medical office experience required
- Experience with insurance verification and patient scheduling
- Knowledge of HIPAA compliance standards
- Strong keyboarding and data entry skills
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and changing environment
- English proficiency required (Read, Write, Speak)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with IDX or other Practice Management Systems
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Prior front desk or patient registration experience in a healthcare setting
