Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN)
Position Summary
The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) provides direct patient care services within a clinical or institutional healthcare setting under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN), Nursing Administrator, or designee. The LVN is responsible for delivering safe, therapeutic, and compassionate nursing care consistent with established policies, procedures, and standards of practice. This role supports interdisciplinary treatment efforts and assists in the ongoing assessment, monitoring, and care of patients.
Minimum Qualifications
- Active and unrestricted Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license issued by the State of California
- Minimum of twelve (12) months of direct patient care experience within the last three (3) years in a public or private healthcare setting
- Current clinical competencies as required prior to assignment
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare environment
- Strong clinical documentation and communication skills
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Organize, provide, and maintain healthcare services in accordance with facility policies and procedures
- Plan and implement nursing care, including:

- Medication administration
- Therapeutic treatments and interventions
- Disease prevention activities
- Execution of physician orders
- Collection of specimens for diagnostic testing
- Monitor patient conditions and report significant changes to the RN or Primary Care Provider (PCP) in a timely manner
- Participate as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team by:

- Assisting with treatment planning
- Completing assigned summaries and documentation
- Developing care plans
- Assisting physicians during rounds
- Implementing physician orders
- Assist healthcare and mental health professionals in evaluating patient progress through behavioral observation and documentation
- Accurately document nursing care, treatments, and patient responses within the medical record to ensure continuity of care
- Maintain infection control and patient safety standards at all times
- Support and reinforce compliance with healthcare regulations, safety procedures, and clinical protocols
- Provide nursing care to patients requiring enhanced observation, safety monitoring, or behavioral support as directed by medical staff
Preferred Experience
- Behavioral health or psychiatric nursing experience
- Correctional healthcare experience
- Skilled nursing, long-term care, rehabilitation, or acute care experience
- Experience working with high-acuity or medically complex patients
Required Skills
- Medication administration and treatment management
- Clinical observation and patient monitoring
- Electronic health record (EHR) documentation
- Interdisciplinary collaboration
- Crisis intervention and de-escalation awareness
- Strong communication and organizational skills
Work Environment
This position may be performed in a hospital, clinic, behavioral health facility, long-term care facility, rehabilitation center, correctional facility, or other healthcare environment. Candidates must be comfortable working with patients experiencing acute medical, psychiatric, or behavioral conditions.
License/Certification Requirements
- Current California LVN License
- Current CPR/BLS certification preferred
- All required clinical competencies must be completed and verified prior to assignment
