Employment Type: Full-Time, 10-Month (Exempt)

Overview

Focused Staffing Group is seeking a passionate, student-centered High School English Teacher to deliver engaging, rigorous, and standards-aligned instruction in Literature, Composition, and Language Arts for grades 9–12. The ideal candidate integrates creativity, critical thinking, and cross-disciplinary connections to support both academic and artistic learners. This role requires a teacher who can build an inclusive classroom environment and effectively differentiate instruction for diverse student needs.

Key ResponsibilitiesInstruction & Curriculum

  • Plan and deliver daily English Language Arts lessons aligned to Pennsylvania academic standards (ELA).

  • Teach courses such as English 9–12, Honors English, Creative Writing, and/or AP English (depending on assignment).

  • Develop writing-intensive lessons that promote analysis, argumentative writing, and literary interpretation.

  • Incorporate arts integration, project-based learning, and real-world applications to enhance engagement.

  • Differentiate instruction for students with IEPs, English Learners, and advanced learners.

Assessment & Data Use

  • Design and administer diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments.

  • Analyze data to adjust instruction and support student growth.

  • Maintain accurate grading and records in the student information system.

  • Prepare students for state ELA assessments when applicable.

Student Support & Classroom Culture

  • Establish a positive, structured, and inclusive classroom environment.

  • Implement required accommodations per IEPs, 504 Plans, and ELD plans.

  • Support school-wide MTSS and behavior systems.

Collaboration & Professionalism

  • Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum alignment and interdisciplinary projects.

  • Attend staff meetings, department meetings, and IEP meetings as needed.

  • Communicate proactively with families about student progress.

  • Participate in professional development and school events.

Minimum QualificationsCertification

Valid Pennsylvania Instructional I or II Certificate in one of the following:

  • English 7–12

  • Communications 7–12 (accepted by some PA schools for ELA instruction)

Education & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or a related field (Master’s preferred but not required).

  • Strong knowledge of literature, writing instruction, and PA ELA standards.

  • Ability to integrate creative and arts-focused approaches into instruction.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proficiency with Google Workspace and educational technology (e.g., Google Classroom).
