SUMMARY: The Director of Metals Market is responsible for leading business development efforts within the steel and broader metals industry companywide. This strategic role is responsible for driving revenue growth by identifying new opportunities, cultivating key relationships, and delivering tailored hydraulic and motion control solutions to steel mills, forging operations, extrusion plants, processors, and fabricators. The Director reports to the RVP – Southeast Region.

  • New Business Development: Identify and pursue new business opportunities by leveraging existing relationships and building new ones with key decision-makers, including corporate leadership, maintenance managers, reliability engineers, and procurement teams.
  • CAPEX Tracking: Research, monitor, and report on capital expenditure (CAPEX) investments by customers, both within and outside Evolution’s assigned sales regions.
  • Sales Growth & Strategy: Collaborate with executive leadership to define strategic objectives, prioritize initiatives, and execute a comprehensive sales strategy aligned with company growth goals and brand awareness.
  • Industry Expertise: Maintain a deep understanding of industry trends, challenges, and regulatory requirements. Use this knowledge to position the company as a trusted advisor and solutions provider.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Regional Sales, Field Service, Systems Engineering, Supply Chain, and Strategic Suppliers to deliver integrated product and service solutions.
  • Product & Solution Promotion: Champion the full range of hydraulic products and services. Stay current on new technologies and lead internal training to ensure sales teams are equipped to promote solutions effectively.
  • Proposal Development: Lead or support the preparation of strategic proposals, bids, and presentations for key accounts and high-value opportunities.
  • Performance Reporting: Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs), sales pipeline activity, and competitive positioning in regular sales updates.
  • Industry Engagement: Represent the company in relevant industry associations such as AIST - Association for Iron & Steel Technology, NAM - National Association of Manufacturers, FMA – Fabricators & Manufacturers Association, participating in committees, conferences, and technical events to enhance brand visibility and gather market intelligence.
  • Team Leadership: Mentor and support regional sales teams, fostering a culture of accountability, technical excellence, and customer focus.
  • Perform other duties as requested by Manager.

Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below are representative of the education, experience, skills and/or abilities required. An individual must meet the minimum requirements as listed in each Qualifications subsection.


EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business or a related field is preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 7+ years of sales, business development, or commercial leadership experience in the steel or heavy industrial sector required.
  • Proven track record of selling technical solutions, ideally involving hydraulic systems or industrial services.

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Strong network within the metals market and active or prior involvement in industry associations (e.g., AIST).
  • Must possess a deep understanding of metals industry operations, strong technical knowledge of hydraulics and fluid power systems.
  • Proficiency with CRM platforms (e.g., Salesforce) and data-driven sales management.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
  • Solid technical writing skills.
  • Possess a Customer-centric mindset
  • Strategic thinker with a hands-on approach to execution and customer engagement.
  • Proven experience leading cross-functional teams and managing complex sales cycles.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% across regional territories and to national industry events.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some movement from area to area, transporting of items such as a laptop computer, small products or parts, product books or catalogs. Position also requires long periods of sitting while driving or riding as a passenger in an automobile to customer sites. Ability to effectively communicate using company-issued devices such as laptop, mobile phone, etc.


WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the primary duties of the job, the employee is regularly exposed to general office environment. Must be able to move through customer sites, including warehouses, shipyards, oil field rigs, manufacturing facilities, and related machinery, etc. Work outside normal business hours is required
