Plant Operator Night Shift
Job Description
Job DescriptionDescription:Turn Sand Into Something Extraordinary
At York Building Products, we don’t just move material—we create the foundation for industries to thrive. For more than 85 years, we’ve been a family-owned leader in building materials across the East Coast, known for grit, integrity, and doing things the right way.
Our Quartz operation plays a critical role in supplying high-purity quartz sand for the glass industry, and we’re looking for a hands-on, driven Plant Operator who’s ready to own the process, keep the plant running strong, and take pride in a job well done.
If you like big equipment, real responsibility, and being part of a tight-knit team that values safety and skill—you’ll feel right at home here.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
As a Quartz Plant Operator, you’ll control, monitor, and fine-tune plant operations to ensure consistent, high-quality production. This is not a button-pushing role—you’ll be actively involved in the process from start to finish.
You will:
- Operate and adjust a fluidized bed dryer, conveyors, bucket elevators, and supporting equipment
- Monitor production flow and material quality to meet strict specifications
- Perform sampling, quality testing, and data entry; analyze results and make adjustments
- Direct truck drivers during loading operations
- Conduct routine inspections and assist with maintenance and plant repairs
- Maintain housekeeping standards that keep the plant safe and efficient
- Communicate production, maintenance, and safety needs to plant leadership
- Follow all YBP and MSHA safety regulations—every shift, every task
- Step up for additional duties as plant demands change
What We’re Looking For
- Experience operating sand, aggregate, or asphalt plants preferred
- Familiarity with aggregate dryers, screens, conveyors, and material handling systems
- Mechanical aptitude and a willingness to get your hands dirty
- Ability to run quality control tests and maintain production records
- Basic computer skills
- Strong safety mindset with the ability to follow and enforce procedures
- Willingness to work overtime and weekends when needed
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment
Physical & Work Environment
- Lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 lbs
- Stand, walk, climb, shovel, squat, crawl, and bend throughout the shift
- Work indoors and outdoors in heat, cold, dust, wind, and varying weather conditions
- Safely operate heavy industrial equipment and machinery
Why Join York Building Products?
- Stable, family-owned company with 85+ years of success
- Competitive pay and a strong benefits package
- Training and development opportunities
- Wellness programs and employee appreciation events
- A culture that values safety, teamwork, and craftsmanship
Duties and responsibilities may evolve with business needs. Medical and/or religious accommodations will be considered in accordance with applicable laws.
