- Active RN license in Virginia or Compact Nursing License (required)\n
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications (required)\n
- Minimum 1 year recent CVICU or cardiac ICU experience (required); 2 years preferred\n
- Experience with immediate post-op CABG recovery and cardiac surgery patient care\n
- Advanced device competency: Swan-Ganz/PA catheter required; ECMO, IABP, Impella experience preferred\n
- Must pass EKG exam at orientation\n
- Ability to function as backup charge nurse when needed\n
- No local candidates — applicants must reside outside a 50-mile radius\n
- Travel nurse eligibility and license verification required prior to start\n
\n\nCore Responsibilities\n

- Provide, coordinate, and evaluate care for critically ill adult cardiac surgery patients in the CVICU\n
- Perform comprehensive assessments and develop individualized care plans for post-op cardiac surgery patients\n
- Administer medications, titrate drips, and manage advanced cardiac devices including Swan-Ganz/PA catheters, IABP, Impella, and ECMO in collaboration with perfusionists\n
- Monitor and interpret hemodynamic data; respond to changes in patient condition\n
- Serve as a clinical resource and backup charge nurse as required\n
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (cardiac surgeons, anesthesiology, perfusion, respiratory therapy, physical therapy) to optimize patient outcomes\n
- Provide patient and family education and emotional support through complex procedures and recovery\n
- Maintain accurate documentation, ensure patient safety, and follow quality improvement initiatives\n
