The Customer Service Rep I provides customer service, clerical duties, and courier support for Riley County Public Works. This position is a primary point of contact for the public, responding to inquiries, providing information, and assisting with issue resolution in a courteous and professional manner.
Position is responsible for delivering intradepartmental mail for Riley County Departments This role requires regular driving to various locations to ensure timely and accurate delivery of materials.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provides front line customer service with courtesy and professionalism, answers incoming calls/directs calls and provides information, documents complaints and takes accurate and complete messages and relays to the proper person in a timely manner.
- Performs multiple tasks while maintaining a calm, professional and helpful attitude.
- Transports items daily between County buildings and other non-County establishments as necessary
- Receives, scans, and enters historical and current information into software program.
- Receipts cash and checks daily.
- Creates and maintains Solid Waste tonnage spreadsheet, balances and/or reconciles monthly invoices.
- Creates and maintains spreadsheets.
- Maintains records and filing systems, files electronically, operates standard office equipment.
- Pick-up, sort and distribute incoming mail.
- Processes outgoing mail
- Performs clerical and miscellaneous duties as assigned.
- Assists with distributing information to employees.
- Reserves, assists with setup and cleanup for conference & training room activities.
- Must maintain reliable attendance and foster a cooperative work environment.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:
- Serves as backup to Account Clerk I position.
- Assists with historical research.
- Maintains work area in a clean and safe manner.
- Assists with maintaining, organizing and updating records
- Serves as backup at the Riley County Transfer Station scale house.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Education: Highschool diploma or equivalent required
License(s)/Certificate(s): Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record required.
Experience: Customer service experience required. 2 years computer experience with proficiency in Microsoft. Word and Excel experience required. General office experience preferred. Knowledge of real estate legal descriptions and surveys preferred.
May require occasional work outside normal work hours which may include holidays and weekends.
An appropriate combination of experience and education will be considered in lieu of the above requirements.
Skills: Knowledge of business financial practices preferred. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and written. Ability to ensure and provide quality customer service to customers. Responsibility, reliability, honesty, punctuality, accuracy, and patience. Ability to drive daily on established routes in all types of weather and follow laws and safe driving procedures and practices. Ability to handle confidential information and/or high value document/items including cash. Ability to work with multiple interruptions. Ability to plan, prioritize, organize, and accomplish work assignments. Ability to learn new software applications. Ability to operate computers, calculators, copiers, fax machines, and related office equipment. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with employees, supervisors, other governmental agency officials, and the general public.

The employee frequently lifts 25-50lbs and constantly lifts up to 25lbs.
