Community Programs Specialist

Salary: $44,000 FLSA status: Full-Time (40 hrs/week), Exempt

Job Statement: The focus of this grant-funded position includes addressing workforce development by supporting early learning professionals in achieving higher education in the early childhood field, providing support to a network of child care providers, and/or connecting with businesses about supporting employees with child care. This may include facilitating meetings, providing training (including CPR training), support, coaching, and resources. This position reports to the Community Programs Co-Directors. This position may require travel to early education programs and other businesses in Branch, Genesee, Hillsdale, Jackson, Lenawee, Livingston, Monroe, and Washtenaw counties. Nothing in this job description restricts management’s right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time.

Performance Expectations:

· Demonstrate a high level of commitment to delivering excellent customer service to child care providers and community partners.

· Provide support, coaching, and resources to early learning professionals.

· Create and facilitate training and meetings (including logistics) for early childhood programs and staff.

· Conduct focused outreach with early childhood education programs and/or businesses within the region.

· Conducts regular meetings and/or coaching visits (including on-site visits) with community organizations, child care program directors, and staff.

· Present about the CCN programs at events within the region/state.

· Assist with enrollment, documentation, data collection, reporting, and participation in strategy meetings.

· Advocate on behalf of children, families, and early learning professionals.

· Represent CCN at community meetings as deemed necessary and appropriate for position. Coordinate with community agencies, service groups, and other businesses concerning child and family issues to remove barriers related to child care and education.

· Availability on weeknights and weekends when needed.

· Maintain working knowledge of all systems required to conduct the work.

· Demonstrate thorough knowledge of Child Care Network services and activities.

· Maintain awareness of current legislation and best practices recommended in the field of early childhood.

· Participate in evaluation and continuous quality improvement. Attend agency and department staff meetings regularly.

· Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of client, staff, and agency information.

· Diligently work to improve work-related skills and performance through continuing education and self-reflection. Complete 16 hours of professional development annually.

Required Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

· Two (2) years’ work experience in a related field or 60 college credits with some focus on classes in the following areas: Social or Human Services, Psychology, Child and Family Studies, Early Childhood Education, or a related field. A combination of lived experience and education may be considered.

· Knowledge of and experience with early care and education programs.

· Knowledge of current issues facing people with high needs. Demonstrates sensitivity to the needs and concerns of diverse cultural groups.

· Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

· Ability to work collaboratively in teams and work independently in a self-directed manner.

· Familiarity with State of Michigan child care licensing rules.

· Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment.

· Excellent customer service skills and ability to form interpersonal relationships.

· Knowledge/experience with computer technology, spreadsheets, databases, internet, websites, social media, and word processing.

· Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
