Job Description
The Digital Print Operator is responsible for producing high-quality printed materials using a variety of digital printing technologies. This role involves setting up, operating, and maintaining digital printing and bindery equipment while ensuring production meets quality, accuracy, and efficiency standards.
The operator works with production files, print specifications, and materials to execute print jobs according to standard operating procedures. This position requires attention to detail, technical troubleshooting skills, and the ability to maintain confidentiality while working in a fast-paced production environment.
Responsibilities
Production Operations
- Operate digital printing equipment, including black-and-white and MICR printing systems.
- Set up and run digital presses and bindery equipment in accordance with standard procedures.
- Retrieve, verify, and load appropriate paper and specialty stock for print jobs.
- Read and interpret work tickets and specification sheets to ensure accurate job setup.
- Locate, validate, and upload print files into production systems.
- Monitor print jobs to ensure quality, alignment, and accuracy meet required standards.
Equipment Operation & Maintenance
- Calibrate digital presses at the beginning of each shift, especially for MICR printing systems.
- Perform routine maintenance and daily care of printing equipment as directed.
- Monitor equipment performance and ensure proper functionality throughout production.
- Assist with additional production equipment such as automated inserting systems.
Quality Control
- Inspect printed materials for defects, inconsistencies, and accuracy.
- Ensure all work complies with established quality standards and procedures.
- Maintain consistency in output across all production runs.
Troubleshooting & Problem Solving
- Identify and resolve printing, equipment, and computer-related issues.
- Troubleshoot production problems and implement solutions within defined procedures.
- Escalate complex issues when necessary.
Inventory & Workflow Management
- Monitor inventory levels of paper and production materials.
- Initiate timely requests for replenishment of stock.
- Maintain an organized and efficient production workspace.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all safety procedures and maintain a safe working environment.
- Ensure confidentiality of all printed materials and sensitive information.
- Perform duties in compliance with company policies and operational guidelines.
Skills
- Knowledge of digital printing technologies and production workflows
- Ability to operate digital printers and bindery equipment
- Familiarity with MICR printing processes (preferred)
- Strong attention to detail and quality control
- Ability to read and interpret work tickets and specifications
- Troubleshooting skills for printing equipment and computer systems
- Basic to intermediate computer skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a production environment
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Understanding of inventory control and material handling
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive materials
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- 3–5 years of experience in digital printing, production, or a related field
- Experience operating digital printing equipment preferred (e.g., production printers and finishing equipment)
- Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to perform equipment maintenance
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (8+ hours)
- Ability to lift and handle paper stock and production materials as needed
- Ability to follow standard operating procedures and quality guidelines
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make decisions within established processes
- Commitment to safety, quality, and operational efficiency
Job Details
Pay: $22.40/per hour
Location: Houston, TX
Schedule: 5-40 Schedule (8Hr Days)
