In this position, you will be part of TASC’s agency infrastructure, whose departments collectively assure the overall quality, fiscal responsibility, effectiveness, and impact of TASC’s work, and work to advance our mission to build a healthier, safer, and more just society.

We are currently looking for a full-time Policy and Communications Coordinator
Starting at $55,000– $65,000 contingent upon experience, education, etc.

Summary: This position is responsible for providing project management, editorial, and administrative support to the organization’s policy and communications efforts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Format and distribute newsletters, e-blasts, and email campaigns using templates provided, using a variety of platforms.
  • Schedule and publish approved social media posts across TASC and CHJ platforms, in coordination with the director of communications.
  • Assist with legislative bill review, tracking, and reporting process, filing of witness slips, and lobbyist reporting, in coordination with the Vice President of Policy.
  • Maintain tracking system for sign-on letters and other policy activities.
  • Support development and dissemination of organization publications, including composition, proofreading, and editing of marketing materials, research/issue briefs, reports, fact sheets, testimonies, presentations, blog posts, articles, correspondence, etc.
  • Upload and update approved website and blog content in coordination with the Communications & Marketing team.
  • Provide planning and detailed coordination support for events, including but not limited to the annual TASC Advocacy Day in Springfield, including outreach, correspondence, RSVP management, logistics, and follow-through.
  • Ensure ongoing maintenance of accurate and up-to-date information for policy and communications contacts in the database, ensuring consistency of data entry and utility of data queries.
  • Ensure consistent application of brand and style guidelines in all materials being formatted, posted, or disseminated.
  • Represent the organization and the policy and communications departments professionally and efficiently, internally and externally.
  • Assist with scheduling meetings and conference calls, developing agendas, preparing notes, and preparing setting up materials and refreshments for meetings, and making travel arrangements/itineraries.
  • Respond promptly to internal and external information requests.
  • Track project requests, assignments, and timelines using shared project management tools.
  • Manage and track inventory of external communications and policy materials, and organize electronic files for the policy and communications departments.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for communications-related requests, routing items to the appropriate staff member.

Our Ideal candidate:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in public policy, government affairs, communications, the social sciences, or a related field; experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two to four years’ experience in policy, communications, or related field.
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and desktop publishing software.
  • Competency with Canva and social-media management tools (e.g., Meta Business Suite, Hootsuite, Buffer) is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud applications is a plus.
  • Experience with or interest in video editing, photography, or audio editing is a strong plus.
  • Ability to prepare written materials for various audiences, including correspondence, social media posts, and meeting notes.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, self-directed, resourceful, and motivated.
  • Ability to work efficiently, both independently and in a team.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to balance multiple projects and responsibilities.
  • Alignment with the organization’s mission, demonstrated commitment to criminal legal system reform, equity, and inclusion, and ability to work collaboratively with diverse colleagues, partners, and clients.
  • Ability to provide high-quality service to internal and external audiences, and represent TASC positively and professionally.
  • Strong communication skills (written and oral).
  • Ability to work flexible hours and travel as needed (evening/weekend hours).
  • Must be available to attend meetings and meet the needs of the organization throughout the community and/or city and state, as needed.
