Job Summary:
The Metrology Engineer will be responsible for ensuring our products meet the quality standards through precision measuring, collection of data, and analysis both internally and from our vendors. Your expertise and ability to analyze and interpret data is a crucial part in helping us maintain our commitment to excellence. This role requires a strong technical background, exceptional critical thinking skills, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Program CMM and Optical Inspection equipment.
- Read and interpret schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings to inform programming decisions.
- Inspect parts with thorough knowledge of dimension and tolerance as required by in-house or customer drawings
- First Article, In-process and Final inspection
- Proficient in the use of micrometers, digital height gauges, comparators, pin gauges, bore gauges and other metrology instruments
- Ensure compliance with industry standards including AS9100 and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
- Conduct thorough testing of inspection programs to identify bugs or areas for improvement.
- Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies relevant to programming practices.
Requirements and Work Environment:
- Typically, in a manufacturing facility the environment can be noisy and requires the use of protective gear.
- The role may involve standing, walking, and lifting, and can be physically demanding.
- Able to lift to 50 pounds.
Qualifications:
- 2-5 years of experience in metrology inspection, preferably in aerospace, machining or other related industries.
- Experience with CMM & Optical inspection systems.
- CMM programming, Optical inspection and machining background.
- Must have experience with inspecting aerospace parts and strong shop math background.
- Familiarity with codes standards applicable in manufacturing environments.
- Knowledge of dimensional inspection techniques is a plus.
- Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, with a detail-oriented approach.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally for training purposes (10%)
- Due to the nature of PBS Aerospace’s business as a defense contractor, this position is limited to U.S. citizens, as defined under applicable federal regulations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Metrologist for Aerospace or related machining operation (5+ years)
- Ability to define tooling and techniques for inspection processes.
- Experience in leading and developing a metrology inspection team.
