Position Summary

The Director/Senior Director, Personal Lines position at APCIA will provide legal and policy analysis of legislative, regulatory, and judicial issues related to personal lines property and casualty insurance. Coordinate the development of APCIA positions on policy property insurance proposals. Prepare materials for APCIA related communications. Engage with members and decision makers to advance APCIA priorities. Support and coordinate with other PRI staff, the APCIA Property, and other property-related subcommittees. Represent APCIA externally to present policy and industry-related information to advance policy goals.

The final title—Director or Senior Director—will be determined based on the candidate’s experience and qualifications.

  • The salary range for the Director position is $133,000 to $135,000.
  • The salary range for the Senior Director position is $150,000 to $155,000.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and lead the work of APCIA’s property-related policy efforts and work with others in the Personal Lines Department to facilitate the meetings, including development of agendas, public policy, and emerging issues.
  • Provide personal property-related thought leadership documents and other written materials for consideration by our Board for public policy adoption, including policy statements, comment letters, regulatory policy drafts, and legislative policy drafts.
  • Collect and maintain up-to-date information on key policy and advocacy issues. Develop issue-oriented advocacy content for various communication channels, including emails, websites, and social media.
  • Represent APCIA at Government Affairs/Policy Committees, and to organizations such as the NAIC and other state or national organizations as assigned. Serve as a standing point of contact for those organizations and APCIA.
  • Conduct multi-jurisdictional research on a wide variety of issues related to the property-casualty insurance industry, with an emphasis on personal lines and property-related issues.
  • Work with APCIA colleagues and members to develop and coordinate research and policy materials to ensure they are delivered in a timely manner and meet the compliance needs of APCIA’s members and subscribers.
  • Develop and maintain contacts with policymakers, regulators, and national organizations that impact property and casualty insurance outcomes through policy and ordinance changes.
  • Represent APCIA at industry and property issue-oriented stakeholder group meetings/forums, while developing and maintaining positive relationships with individuals/organizations engaged in topical issues impacting property insurance.
  • Analyze the implications of legislative and regulatory proposals for APCIA membership.
  • Apprise APCIA member companies of relevant legislative and regulatory developments.
  • Advise and guide APCIA member companies in the development of APCIA policy positions.
  • Apprise the APCIA state and federal government affairs staff on APCIA policy positions.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Serve as staff liaison to other APCIA Committees or Subcommittees as assigned.
  • Serve as division liaison to internal committees tasked with improving organizational productivity.

Qualifications:

  1. - Educational Requirements: College degree, Law degree beneficial; Minimum of five (director) or seven (senior director) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. - Experience: Significant knowledge of research resources and legal research software such as WestLaw and LexisNexis.

Preferred Skills:

  • Writing, editing, and analytical skills.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Attorney should be an accredited member of a Bar Association in good standing.
