Location: Ascent Classical Academy of Douglas County - Lone Tree, CO
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Reports To: Special Education Teacher / Dean of Student Services
Work Schedule: Faculty Calendar; includes all school days and professional development days

Position Summary

As a Special Education Paraprofessional - Medical at Ascent Classical Academy of Douglas County, you support students with disabilities and medical needs under the supervision of special education teachers and the Dean of Student Services You assist with academic tasks and daily living skills including feeding toileting mobility and the use of adaptive equipment You play a key role in helping students access their education safely and with dignity

This role requires flexibility empathy and a strong commitment to the school's classical education mission grounded in the pursuit of truth goodness and beauty You will help foster a supportive environment that promotes learning inclusion and character development for all students

Essential Functions

  • Assist students with medical needs including toileting feeding hygiene and mobility

  • Support instruction as directed by the special education teacher

  • Help implement IEPs and behavior plans

  • Provide academic and behavioral support individually and in small groups

  • Monitor and record student progress and interventions

  • Supervise students during transitions and non-classroom activities

  • Encourage inclusion in general education and schoolwide activities

  • Assist students with using adaptive technology and tools

  • Help maintain a safe clean and structured classroom environment

  • Communicate with staff and participate in team meetings and training

  • Maintain confidentiality of student records and health needs

  • Respond appropriately in emergencies following training and school protocols

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required

  • Experience in a school special education setting preferred

  • Willingness to learn classical education principles

  • Effective communication skills in spoken and written English

  • Reliable responsible and team-oriented

  • Able to follow directions and complete documentation accurately

  • Patience compassion and strong interpersonal skills

  • Willingness to support students with medical and behavioral needs

  • Uphold the school's mission values and core virtues

Physical Requirements

  • Able to lift up to 25 pounds

  • Able to assist with mobility needs and personal care

  • Able to supervise students indoors and outdoors

  • Frequent standing walking bending or kneeling

  • Able to move through school buildings and respond in emergencies
