Animal Care Feline Team

Reports to: Animal Care Supervisor / Shelter Manager
Compensation: $15.00 per hour
Classification: Full-time, non-exempt


Position Summary

The Animal Care Feline Team position provides daily hands-on care for the cats and kittens housed at Animal Friends Humane Society. This role ensures every cat receives consistent feeding, cleaning, enrichment, and safe handling while maintaining a clean, healthy environment. Team members also support basic behavior and enrichment goals set by the behavior staff, helping each animal progress toward adoption. Training is provided for all core responsibilities.


Key Responsibilities

  • Clean, disinfect, and maintain cat kennels, colony rooms, and common spaces
  • Provide daily feeding, watering, and complete laundry and dishes
  • Safely handle cats and kittens of all ages and temperaments, including restraint for exams and vaccines
  • Monitor animal health and behavior, promptly reporting changes or concerns
  • Support enrichment activities such as play, socialization, and stress-reduction techniques
  • Assist with intake and adoption preparation, including vaccinations, microchipping, and basic documentation
  • Follow shelter protocols for sanitation, safety, and disease-control
  • Support volunteers by modeling safe handling and clear communication
  • Interact with adopters and visitors in a professional, welcoming manner


Day in the Life

A typical day as a Feline Team member begins with cleaning and sanitation to provide each cat with a safe, comfortable space. Youll feed cats and kittens, refresh water, and complete laundry and dishes to keep supplies ready. Throughout the day youll observe cats for health or behavior changes, provide enrichment through play and socialization, and prepare animals for adoption. While most of the work is physical, youll also interact with fosters, volunteers, and adopters to ensure every cat receives consistent, compassionate care.


Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Prior animal handling, kennel, or shelter experience preferred but not required
  • Training provided for all core responsibilities
  • Dependable, compassionate, and able to work as part of a team
  • Comfort working with cats and kittens of varying temperaments
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, standing, and working on your feet for extended periods
  • Willingness to work in a loud, fast-paced environment and handle cleaning tasks


Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds safely
  • Work involves exposure to animals, cleaning chemicals, loud noises, and zoonotic diseases
  • Regularly required to bend, stoop, lift, and stand for extended periods of time
  • Emotional resilience needed when working with shelter animals and outcomes



Schedule

Full-time position, 40 hours per week.
Shifts are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM with a one-hour unpaid break.
Weekend and holiday availability is required.
