POSITION SUMMARY

Cardiac Sonographers perform high quality quantitative studies on current stare-of-the-art equipment to provide our physicians with definitive diagnostic information in a wide variety of cardiac pathologies and conditions. This is in support of the general cardiology section of the practice and sub-specialty areas which include interventional and structural heart, electrophysiology, cardio-oncology, cardio-obstetrics, advanced heart failure and infiltrative diseases, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and sleep medicine. These procedures are performed in a manner consistent with Virginia Heart’s mission of providing excellence in cardiovascular care.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assess records of patients scheduled for echocardiography procedures to confirm the order and determine indications and appropriateness of the procedure.
  • Explains echocardiography procedures to patients.
  • Acquires and analyzes data obtained from the following ultrasound procedures:
  • Resting Two-Dimensional Transthoracic Echocardiography, including 3D techniques, Global Longitudinal Strain, Agitated Saline, and Left Ventricular Opacification as required.
    • Stress Echocardiography, including Doppler acquisition of hemodynamic data and Left Ventricular Opacification as required.
    • May perform vascular diagnostic procedures as needed (qualifications and credentials permitting).
  • Completes the reporting template for echocardiograms to include a summary of data to present to the physician.
  • Completes other Electronic Medical Record requirements.
  • Works as a part of the code team when emergencies occur.

· The echocardiographer is responsible for knowing the location of the medical supplies and medications on the emergency cart and the proper operation of emergency equipment.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Associate degree preferred.
  • Successful completion of cardiac sonography program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), through the Joint Review Committee in Cardiovascular Technology (JRC-CVT) and the Joint Review Committee in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC-DMS).
  • ARDMS (RDCS [AE]) or CCI (ACS or RCS) registry credential required.
  • ARDMS (RVT) or CCI (RVS) is optional.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Providers required.
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Excel required.
  • Strong organization and analytical skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
